This year, for Christmas, I wrote a series of ten variations on O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, in the style of lesser-known composers that I think deserve more attention. Here's the playlist! youtube.com/playlist?list=…

On November 14, the BYU Singers performed my a cappella choral work, Lord of the Winds and the Water, which they had commissioned. They did an amazing job and even memorized the (very difficult) piece! 🤯 youtu.be/9e0cwUmC0z0

Thought you all might be interested in an interview Ryan Leach conducted with me after I won his Fall 2024 composition competition! We went over tips for preparing for a scoring session, discussed the composition process, and then viewed the final result. youtu.be/h7aox-5HDJk

In November 2024, I won Ryan Leach's composition competition; the prize was a recording of my short piece Jungle Hunt with members of the Cape Town Philharmonic in South Africa via Cinemagic Scoring. They did an amazing job: here is the end result! youtu.be/nCrY50PMmL4

@IndieGameNews1 I use Audacity with the built-in Noise Reduction filter. I have an ancient Zoom H2 audio recorder which still works great. Usually the space between the voice lines is silent already at that point, so I don't really have to do anything else other than split it at silences.

Looking for some voice recording advice. I use Goldwave and my process is generally to do a very light NR, then Noise Gate to have silence around the voice lines. This can be a bit too aggressive at clipping end sounds however, so wondering if any of these NG options are better?

I wrote some silly variations of Jingle Bells in the styles of 10 different composers, and for some reason they're going viral over on Instagram! Here's a YouTube playlist with all of them if you're interested. youtube.com/watch?v=Vvh-sW…

I just found out today that I won Ryan Leach's Fall 2024 Composition Competition, and my 90-second piece is going to be recorded by the Cape Town (South Africa) Philharmonic Orchestra! Here's my score video of the piece (with a MIDI mockup): youtu.be/r8yOEJZycgg

@ryanleachmusic I'm not sure, but George Crumb's Black Angels is up there. Some stuff by Ligeti, Lutoslawski and Penderecki too.

Apparently when Beethoven started going deaf his friends didn’t notice, because they were already so used to him ignoring them while zoned out imagining music in his head

This has got to be a bad joke. Isn't most EDM around 120-132bpm? The sextet I just finished writing is 188bpm. I guess I won't be getting any performances in Chechnya... cnn.com/2024/04/08/eur…

So sad to hear of the death of Peter Schickele, aka P.D.Q. Bach. His early Concerto for Horn and Hardart and late String Quartet ("The Moose") are among my favorites. Rare was the piece (or introduction) that didn't make me laugh, even after I'd heard it 20 times!

@ryanleachmusic I was obsessed with Stravinsky in general, and the Rite of Spring specifically, as a teenager and in college. I even managed to convince my college orchestra to play it. I still really love the piece, but I've expanded my horizons beyond just Stravinsky these days!
