Day 2 of the MSG Induction at Speke Resort Munyonyo The day commenced with opening remarks from the MSG Chairperson and Assistant Commissioner at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Francis Twinamatsiko. This was followed by a series of presentations, including EITI report recommendations delivered by the UGEITI Compliance Officer, and an overview of the Validation Report presented by the UGEITI Research Officer. The National Coordinator, UGEITI, guided participants through the EITI report preparation process. A session on the history of petroleum exploration in Uganda was delivered by Mr. Clovice Irumba, Director for Exploration at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU). Day 1 of the MSG Induction at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The programme commenced with welcome remarks from the National Coordinator, who welcomed newly appointed members to the Uganda EITI Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), followed by a keynote address. In his remarks, he reflected on Uganda’s journey towards EITI adoption, tracing it back to the 2006 oil discovery and the growing need for transparent and accountable management of extractive resources. The session also featured a presentation from the International Secretariat on the EITI Standard 2023, as well as remarks from the MSG Chairperson and Assistant Commissioner at the Ministry of Finance, Francis Twinamatsiko. Uganda’s EITI implementation is anchored on strengthening transparency, accountability, and responsible governance, while safeguarding against the resource curse.
