my house is paid off. no mortgage. nothing owed. got the new property tax bill today. if i don’t pay it, armed men show up and take the house i “own.” i already pay 35%+ in income tax, sales tax, gas tax, capital gains… but apparently that wasn’t enough. so do i actually own anything? or am i just renting from the government with extra steps?

Look, pro-homeschooling people are piling on this guy but he's not wrong at all. I know of families who are straight-up failing to teach their children beyond a 2nd-grade education. Like 16-year-old kids who don't know what the Capital of the US is, have never heard of Toronto, and could not perform a basic algebra problem. While it's true that there are many excellent homeschooling families whose instruction far exceeds that of any public school, the fact is that the American system of "school your kids however you want" does also yield a lot of severely stunted kids who get stuck playing "catch-up" for the rest of their lives. My wife was homeschooled, we might homeschool, I'm not averse to the practice per se, but it's a fact that there's a whole world of multi-generational homeschoolers who are not and will not rise above a 2nd or 3rd grade education level by their own volition. Should the state intervene in these cases? I dunno, the answer to the question is not as "easy" as many make it out to be. The idea of barely getting through 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' at the age of 16 should be appalling, and it IS happening in some American homeschooler families.

So the movie War Machine. It’s a fun thriller, the actors all do a decent job, and Reacher is always fun to watch. The problem is the murder robot is retarded. Its targeting system is butt compared to our own current targeting systems It gets taken out by rocks. A single A-10 would absolutely wreck the thing You have to not make the murder robot ridiculously vulnerable to current military capabilities

This means building a Fusion Engine with the right outputs, actuators with the correct tolerances and mobility. Engineers in big, IS factories have the resources, yours don't.

True. That said, the rarity of such things seems to be very… over exaggerated to me. You mean to tell me that literally no one has been able to back-engineer this stuff in going on two hundred and fifty years, even in locations where the actual manufacturing plants are still fully operational? Things like advanced targeting computers or Beagle Active Probes, sure, those were specialized and uncommon even before the Succession Wars, but having manufactories making myomer largely uninterrupted for two centuries and never once employing someone who might figure out how it worked seems odd.

@ardan_blade @Ganglosaxonnne Oh yeah it’s like a one- or *maybe* two-off I just wanted an artillery mech and the more I drew it the more it looked like an up-gunned Hunchback so I just decided that one of the engineers *really* liked Hunchbacks and wanted to see just how big of a gun he could put on it.

They somehow managed to ruin Clayton and make him cool at the same side. Book Clayton is good fella but in no way suited to the jungle. Movie Clayton is a safari hunter but also a profiteering mercenary. The platonic Clayton is an honorable huntsman. Which… is Tarzan.
