My wife texted me while I was at work.
“Don’t forget to buy vegetables on your way home, and Nihal says hi. 😊”
I replied:
“Who is Nihal?”
She said:
“Nobody. I just wanted to make sure you actually read my messages.”
So I decided to have a little fun.
I replied:
“I’m actually with Nihal right now. Which one are you talking about?”
She instantly replied…..

I transferred ₦35 million of my late father’s inheritance to my fiancé… only to catch him kissing another woman at the house he bought with it, just three days before our wedding.
I’m Adaeze, a 24-year-old from Nigeria. I thought I had found forever. I met Daniel at a banking seminar in six years earlier. He was charming, hardworking, and my family adored him. When he proposed on a beach, I cried with joy. Wedding plans were in full swing: hall booked, invitations printed, dress flown in from London. Everyone called me the luckiest woman alive.
Then my father, who had always called me his “little professor,” passed away at 92 and left me ₦42 million. Daniel hugged me tightly and whispered that we should use the money wisely for our future. A week later he claimed his landlord had given him only two months to leave. He suggested we buy a house instead of wasting money on rent. After some hesitation, I agreed. We looked at several properties, but Daniel rejected them all until he found “the perfect place” that needed quick payment. Trusting him completely, I transferred ₦35 million without seeing any paperwork.
For weeks he stayed busy and evasive, promising the house would be a surprise. One Saturday, while driving through a new estate with my cousin Chioma, I froze. There stood the exact cream-colored duplex Daniel had shown me. Chioma mentioned the new owners were a young couple named Kelvin… and just then the gate opened. A beautiful woman walked out carrying shopping bags, followed by Daniel. He laughed as she touched his shoulder, then kissed him fully on the lips.
Our eyes met. His face went white. I drove away in shock, locked myself in, and cried until morning. The next day Daniel fell to his knees at my door, begging. He finally confessed: the woman was Sandra, an ex who had re-entered his life after becoming successful in real estate. He had been seeing both of us and registered the house in Sandra’s name.
Three weeks later Sandra herself appeared at my door, exhausted and in tears. She placed a folder of house documents, transfer receipts, bank statements, and messages on the table. Daniel had told her I was only a cousin and the money came from a family business. Sandra had thrown him out the moment she learned the truth. Together we reported him. After months of investigation the court ruled the money had been obtained fraudulently. The property was sold and most of my inheritance recovered. Daniel lost his job, his reputation, his relationships, and even the support of his own family.
One year later I had rebuilt my life on my own terms. I completed the business programme my father had always wanted me to study, invested carefully, and launched my own consulting company. I now mentor young women on financial independence and healthy relationships. When a thinner, broken Daniel later waited outside my office to apologize, I looked at him quietly and said I had forgiven him long ago but forgiveness did not mean I would ever trust him again. I wished him well and walked away without tears.
Money can be recovered. Trust is far harder to rebuild.
