Illinois eliminates Iowa State in a Sweet 16 showdown, 72-69. Cyclones fought hard, as they always do. But every time ISU drew close, the Clones seemed to miss a lay-up or a shot would rim out. Iowa State never led. Terrence Shannon Jr led Illinois with 29 points, Curtis Jones 26 for ISU. Freshman Milan Momcilovic, who has been key, held to 1 point. @EdWilsonWX13HD describes watching it as a Cyclone fan, and seeing ISU get so close, but never over the hump as “pure torture”. One of the better seasons in Iowa State history ends, 29-8. No reason to think T.J. Otzelberger won’t have the Cyclones back in NCAA Tournament. He’s 3-3. Thoughts?
