So, the lesson we are supposed to learn from this whole Chimaev-Strickland feud was if you apologize and shake hands after saying really, really, really racist things about communities, cultures, etc., in the name of "selling a fight," it should be forgiven?

You were at the presser, as was I. I imagine you felt the intensity and division in that crowd.
Do you think the Muslim fans Sean pointed at while calling them “heathens,” “goat f*ckers,” and “dogs,” and saying they “shouldn’t be allowed in this country,” watched the handshake and 15-second apology Saturday night and thought:
“Wow. What a beautiful lesson for humanity.”
Probably not.
How are months of two men saying some of the most heinous things imaginable to each other about religion, nationality, family, and childhood trauma, in front of millions of people, followed by a 15-second apology that, as of now, is backed by nothing beyond post-fight emotion, somehow “emblematic of what is happening in the world today” and “something we should learn from”?
What exactly is the lesson supposed to be?
Say horrible things to each other for months, do far more to divide people than bring them together, build one of the most toxic promotional lead-ups in MMA history, then touch gloves before the fight, shake hands after, and suddenly it becomes a symbol of peace, integrity, and virtue?
Not sure that’s a lesson in unity.

This is bigger than the UFC and “sports journalism” this is emblematic of what is happening in the world today. Two men of different beliefs, different backgrounds and upbringings and culture at first fused together by hatred and after fighting each other, with everything they had, coming to peace. Something we should learn from. What Sean said about his stance on Israel and how his view changed as time had passed, the needless killing of innocent Palestinians, women and children - is a man who had a world view that not many are able to take a stance on for fear of repercussions from society but one thing Sean isn’t is a dishonest man who gives a damn what anyone thinks and isn’t controlled by ANYONE. You don’t have to like what he says, you don’t have to agree with him but you can’t ever say is that he’s bought and paid for. That man will say WHATEVER is on his mind and he will apologize if he truly believes he needs to. That is one thing about Sean you can count on, but SOME PEOPLE aren’t built this way, with character, with integrity and virtue. Anyway, Congratulations brother you’re a Champion, Khamzat you’re a true warrior.

I feel quite strongly about this: You cannot do what Strickland did and say the insane and vile things he said in the buildup to that fight, then tell us seconds after the fight is over, “I was just trying to sell the fight.”
If you’re going to take us on that ride, you have to take us on that ride until the very end.
That was the biggest bunch of bullshit I’ve ever heard. That is fraudulent. You cannot just walk back all the crazy things you said.
I have nothing against Sean. I like Sean. But that was extremely disappointing.
