@jfernandez @askavrukh 800 here, I don't understand the move. It doesn't free any open line, obstruct the connection between rooks for the foreseeable future, the battery has no target, and there seems (at my level) to exist other non committal moves (like making a loft) if you just want to pass...

@askavrukh It was in my memory as I remember looking at your game as I prepared for this game in 2001, where I drew GM Schmaltz in a different line: chessgames.com/perl/chessgame… In hindsight I don’t recall why I chose the line that I did!
