Mes petits free-lance, branchez-vous avocat. Même si oui, je sais, ça coûte de l’argent. Mais voilà ce qu’il se passe quand un créateur tarde énormément à payer, en faisant le mort, après la réception d’une facture. Ah et ça, ce ne sont que les frais de majoration dû au non paiement une fois le délai dépassé. 46€/jour, je vous laisse compter. Quand il y a de l’argent en jeu, il n’y a pas d’amitié. Je n’ai jamais payé mes factures avec une poignée de main.

@Officeo la facture impayée c'est vraiment celle qui gâche tout le reste tho. ce qui m'a aidé c'est de documenter les livrables en temps réel, le client peut plus vraiment contester. j'utilise workory.app pour ça.

Email threads prove you talked. Contracts prove what you agreed to. Neither proves what you actually delivered. Freelancers lose disputes not because they didn't do the work, but because they can't show the moment they handed it over.

@ItsSuzySooz years is rough. tbh the mistake was at the start, no timeline agreed, no check-ins. by month two with no update you're already past the point where structure would have helped you.

Lets see, I once waited multiple years before receiving artwork. In my earliest days of doing commissions, I had a previous paying client attempt to scam me. Annnd I've currently got a few unfinished art commissions that I'm still being ghosted over. 🫠

@vesselgaveup if the artist had logged milestones, you'd both know where the work stood. no mystery, no guessing. most of these situations aren't bad faith. they're just nobody writing anything down.

as a customer: paying and then waiting over a year for finish as an artist: client being like "yeah I can pay you on Friday for that ref sheet" and then ghosted me. Did the linear but didn't finish it because they didn't pay. They also left to bluesky too and abandoned twitter

@semakulanicho whoever has actual payment records wins this. emails saying 'payment sent' aren't proof. a bank transfer ID and a dated receipt are. if you don't have those on file by default, you'll always end up in this exact spot.

@HillsBekki15323 @kcisc scope creep is the most insidious version of an unpaid invoice. you do the work, it's just never the work you agreed to. the only thing that stops it mid-project is a paper trail that proves what the original scope was.

How do you become 'advanced' in an adult specialty - (same day emergency care) when all of your previous training and experience is in the nursing of children? Aren't you meant to have at least three years experience in the field before working even as a tACP?

@jbsuperman most 'ghosting' is just people disappearing into other problems. the real test is what you have documented when they resurface and questions about scope or payment come up.

I have a client/colleague who I assumed ghosted me a while back — but I just got curious and I went in search of them. They just don't exist anymore. All their socials are gone. Tiktok, Facebook, IG, LinkedIn.

@Zmeinir Unpopular take: the wasn't the issue. You had no record of what was originally agreed. Without that, any extra charge turns into an argument, not a line item.

A client made a fuss when I asked for $5 extra after requesting big pose change and many revisions. They then ghosted me without even getting their money back, so I ended up sending a refund on PayPal's last day. They still haven't answered 2 years later

@zachsmitty yeah that's rough. the real problem comes later though, when you've done the work and have nothing to show it actually happened. log everything, even the no-shows.
