@CPetersen_CS Agree. I suspect there are people in government all over the issues and up on the best of current thinking. It's the process to have that come out that may need some work.

@eleanorpd 💯 Much like adding technical folks to boards of directors, legislators can't read or know everything by themselves. Having a great staff and knowing when to (or not to) listen to lobbyists, industry folks, etc. will be key. #eWEEKchat

100% agree. Lawmakers need to get a lot more sophisticated to make good laws here. #eWeekChat

#eweekchat A9 (cont). After all, we have existing security regs, yet companies that nominally comply with them still suffer attacks, breaches, etc. This sounds cynical (and perhaps is, somewhat) but also reflects just how difficult effective measures are.

A10. AI regulation? Lots of energy on the topic, but if we're going to do it well we need to get a hell of a lot more functional national discourse to get there (in the US at least.) #eweekchat

@AndiMann Any bad industry actors have an incentive to avoid regulation, because an unregulated landscape favors them. They can slow down industry actors (should there be any) looking for good regulation.

Tho TBH this really comes down to voters. I should rephrase the above to ***Voters*** need to care about the law, not grandstanding.

A9. Lawmakers are going to have to level up their understanding of the tech landscape if we're going to get effective AI regulation. i.e. care about the law, not grandstanding. #eweekchat

@AndiMann @sai_buddha Employees should be responsible but with guardrails. And agree with Andi, accountability always upwards. If a whole team is off the rails, then it's a system problem, not a people problem. #eWEEKchat

A4. Employees must understand that AI is a useful tool to improve productivity, but they are still responsible for their work product and for data security. They should use company-approved instances vs. public ones. #eWEEKChat

Companies should only develop their own #GenAI when it is truly specific to thier business and value-add. Otherwise, it's like building your own search. #eWEEKchat

a7. Strong opinions on this one. :) Hold your vendors responsible for developing #GenAI in their lane-- if they aren't, drop them. #eWeekChat

Can be enabled by a champion/ expert on the exec team, but AI off to the side will lead to lack of adoption, turf wars and perverse incentives.

A6. Definitely needs to be the functional leader (Sales, Marketing, Operations etc) to own AI in their world.No movement or accountability otherwise. #eWeekChat

A5. AI is going to be huge in training and onboarding-- like a person who sits next to you and can explain everything you're seeing. #eWeekChat

A4. Like the Internet, companies are going to need to consider #GenAi throughout every training. Functional, security, etc-- not off to the side. #eWeekChat

@AndiMann Agree. I think of this as constraining what choices they made-- can they set the prompts or edit once prompted? Every use case is different.

A3. Always ask-- when does a human need to be in the loop with #GenAI? And why? Then have good answers :) #eWeekChat
