this might surprise folks, but i agree with @electroweak (featured in this excellent Q&A) that quantum computers should most likely not be built at all. i'm involved in the field because i view their building as inevitable, but maybe i am weak. aps.org/publications/a…

i want people reporting on quantum stuff, doing quantum stuff, thinking about quantum stuff to speak up more about the presence of the military in their spaces. what might we be able to do with all the anti-imperialists together??? i want to see it happen!!!

this is not unique! this society is structured to produce violence at large scales! often to do so quietly! quantum spaces are no different!

on implicit militarization in quantum: we have a recent APS News article on developing a quantum workforce. it starts with uses of quantum tech, including sensors. the rest covers how hard it is to teach, new ed programs, etc. many of these sensors will be used in the military!

suuuper interesting that even quantum chemistry looks like it won't be all that useful!! arxiv.org/abs/2208.02199 regardless, we'll improve healthcare with internationalist political systems which prioritize health over profit, not with computers!!
