ok, watched the first two episodes of TADC
im gonna be a tad brutal, i dont think the pilot was that good. The concept obviously had potential, but i think the pacing was bad and it missed more than it landed
BUT im glad i didn't give up because ep 2 was really fucking good

@CombosDoodles If you've got an intetest videogames or 3D rendering there's lots of in-jokes in Ep2.
The space "under the map" where models are loaded in. The way physics glitch out when collisions happen and objects clip into each other. The teapots being a classic object modelers try out.

lots of actually funny moments ("my arms aren't short enough to shift gears" got me laughing out loud), good pacing, existential dread and coping mechanisms being handled in a quieter, subtler, overall better written way with clear set ups for future tensions

@Auroch_nsfw This is actually a recurring plot point where mono-species nations like the Klingons and Ferengi struggle to cope with societal and cultural rot brought on by 'planet-of-hats' syndrome.
The Klingons get explored in mid TNG and DS9 while the Ferengi get fleshed out in DS9.
