most software is fragile - almost none antifragie - but Nix is at least robust. A great innovation and technology!

@wookash_podcast Can someone here help me understand what is the point of asking this in X instead of asking AI. Is AI not able to give a good explanation? Or is the reason to spread awareness of these technologies and be more social? If yes, I respect that.

Can someone here help me understand what is the relationship between CUDA (kernel programming on GPU) and Vulkan (using GPU for graphics) At the end they target the same GPU, but they go through different routes - CUDA instructions are boiled down to PTX, while shaders for Vulkan become SPIR-V. At the lower level - do they target same cores? Does one API uses another one under the hood - is lower level? Why are there multiple, instead of the single one, even from same vendor? Does it differ based on manufacturer? Nvidia vs AMD vs Intel? Is all of it opaque by design? (I would imagine Nvidia or AMD be interested in having a single way of manipulating GPU hardware, instead of catering to graphics needs and AI needs no?) And given CUDA is proprietary, you can substitute CUDA with ROCm if it helps. I'm trying to merge the "graphics" and "ai" paths to understand it at a more granular level then "tensor cores bruh" & "it's just matrix multiplication"

This suggests that I should try to increase the amount of no-devices time in my life. I've been thinking about one weekend a month without any devices. I think I will start it this month, last weekend of April.

i realise my brain never gets to properly rest since it always has a subprocess running thinking about checking the phone or laptop. Usually it's just in the evenings when I put all my devices away and just read or write when it gets to properly rest. I really enjoy those times.

first time Claude push-backed on me without asking for it: me: no changes yet but: wouldn't it be better to have also subagents do that? One subagent per region to find ... claude: That's a good idea but it's a separate concern from what we're changing now. Right now we're ... Let's get the current change working correctly first, then we can tackle .... One thing at a time.

I was extremely confused because I could have sworn that a year ago I used an eSim for 2 weeks and the physical SIM worked just fine after that. I argued with the expert for 2 minutes until I gave up and just accepted all my past memories are fake and I live in a simulation. Turns out later that: 1. ofc the "expert" was wrong 2. my phone subscription had some other error that started when I was using the eSim, which created all this confusion

my physical sim had stopped working after 2 weeks of using eSim while on a trip. I tried restarting, removing and re-inserting the sim. When nothing helped, I went to a store to fix it. The expert laughed at me and said that ofc the physical sim cannot work after using eSim. He said it rewrites it or something??

looking for an application that would track what I do on my mac (even take screenshots every x-seconds) and then AI would find inefficiencies and propose automations for repetitive, time-consuming tasks. Anyone using something like that?

@elias_simojoki @elonmusk @boringcompany Currently they are focusing on the low-speed Loop for local transportation; but they occasionally hinted that they want to do Hyperloop as well at some point, as the tunnelling technology advances, and support for long-distance transportation projects might become available...

@elias_simojoki @elonmusk @boringcompany To be fair, it's easy to get confused, since he originally coined "Hyperloop" for a high-speed transportation concept, and later introduced "Loop" for just cars in tunnels... But here he is indeed talking about the original Hyperloop idea.
