Happy World Book Day!
While the final 3 poems in T, S Eliot's Four Quartets (1941) had all previously appeared in pamphlet form, Burnt Norton is a rare example of verse in a book unfurling backwards into pamphlethood *after* publication.

'I don’t know what a Goon Cat is, but he looks to me suspiciously like my old enemy the Tantamile Cat... all you can say is that he is sub-human. He has a yellow eye like an addled egg, and looks like a maneating tyger...'

'At the end we preferred to travel all night,
Sleeping in snatches,
With the voices singing in our ears, saying
That this was all folly.'

'When the short day is brightest, with frost and fire,
The brief sun flames the ice, on pond and ditches,
In windless cold that is the heart’s heat,
Reflecting in a watery mirror
A glare that is blindness in the early afternoon.'
