There's been a lot of arguments about whether Christians should aspire to be "winsome"--whether it's effective in this post-Christian or "negative" world, using Renn's terminology. The answer is that sometimes it is effective and sometimes it's not. You winsome, you losesome.

When Christians say things like, "We tried being kind and it didn't work," in response to a lack of political gains, we betray a misunderstanding of what it looks like for the gospel to "work."

The Herculaneum papyri are more than 1800 papyri that were carbonized by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius (79 CE). IT'S the only surviving library from antiquity that exists in its entirety. With x-rays, these scrolls are being read for the first time in millennia

I went through my entire PhD on Aramaic thinking Jesus taught only in Aramaic. I had simply imbibed a common assumption.

Toxic positivity is pressuring people to look on the bright side. They have to suppress anxiety, anger, sadness, and grief. Healthy support is shielding people from the dark side. You invite them to express their pain, and show them they're not alone and won't feel it forever.
