the part they left out: these dogs were stolen for the dog meat trade in Jilin, China. Jilin province has 50+ slaughterhouses. they escaped from a moving truck, formed a defensive formation around an injured german shepherd, and a corgi navigated them 17km home over 2 days. they were all neighborhood dogs who played together every day. they all made it back. China still has no national ban on dog meat, but Shenzhen banned it in 2020.

@Lowellwhite @sibeleth @shiraeis anyway, it being 15 years ago makes it a very outdated anecdote. dog meat has been illegal in korea for almost a decade now, and even if some place somehow illegally sold dog meat it would be just as frowned upon there as it is in the US.

@ellevasonner @sibeleth @shiraeis My nephew lived in South Korea for a year as a teacher. People did eat dog meat there, mostly older people. His Korean was not that good and he ordered what he thought was hamburger. It didn’t taste quite right and he is convinced it was dog meat. He threw the rest out.
