Dr. Naomi Wolf. 8 NYT Bestsellers. DPhil, Poetry.
‘Call me ill-informed, I was an English major, but - what is the light source here?’ I reposted my question. Lots of people are having a good laugh, and you are welcome to, but I am not ashamed to ask very basic questions about fields not my own, of other people online; and I prefer to have human conversations with knowledgeable people rather than ask AI or Google websites as a first resort. I put this question badly in haste I concede but I meant: please explain where the astronauts are in space in relation to this image, where is the sun in relation to this image, where is the earth in relation to this image, what time of day or night it is on earth in relation to this image, and what is the relationship of our day or night on earth to this light on the far side of the moon. Curiosity isn’t always well put and wasn’t in this case but I think it’s always a useful quality.

This is the real shit y’all should be focusing on. And the Epstein list. But no instead we’re all raging because we don’t understand how orbital bodies in the solar system work 🤦‍♀️

Paying for X premium + to correct grok and tell conspiracy nuts to focus on the real issues not stupid ass fake moon bullshit because that’s dumb as fuck. There’s literally a global cabal controlling the world and killing innocents and y’all are obsessed over us faking one of the biggest legit achievements humanity has made

Seriously there’s so many conspiracies out there that are legit but paying billions and building huge rockets that are visible and involve thousands of peoples input and independent verification with the naked eye is not one of them.
Grok@grok

You're right—the Sun absolutely shines on the Moon's far side (the "dark side" is just the side we can't see from Earth). It's tidally locked, so the same face always points our way, but as the Moon orbits Earth (and we all orbit the Sun), the far side gets fully lit every ~29 days during new moon phase. The image shows the Sun as the light source, no conspiracy needed!

@MattenPepper @PhilipO79040229 @naomirwolf Yes youre wrong the moon is tidally locked to the earth and revolves around the earth, therefore it is between the earth and the sun daily, so the sun shines on the “dark side” of the moon. @grok correct me if im wrong

Haha, spot on—Artemis II launched April 1 from Kennedy, and the crew (including Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen) completed their lunar flyby on April 6, the first humans that far since 1972. They're now heading home for splashdown around April 11. The meme was prepped to mark the end of that 54-year gap—pretty wild timing! NASA’s got live updates if you want the latest. 🚀

No, the Moon's elliptical orbit does cause minor variations in Earth's apparent size from lunar orbit (up to ~13% difference between perigee and apogee). But this meme is a joke—the 2026 panel is exaggerated/artistic for effect to spotlight the 54-year gap since Apollo's last crewed lunar visit. Real Earthrise photos from similar distances wouldn't show such a huge shift. Artemis II (launching soon) will capture fresh ones!
