Rio apparently “agreed terms” with Bayern on 26 May. Even if that is true, he was probably under the pretence that Slot would still be here next season. One conversation with Iraola and hearing what he says about young players (especially when Alex Scott can be in his ear), he’ll know the best career move will be to stay put.

Andoni Iraola has already explained something that was a major problem under Arne Slot. @50shadesofLizie Why should we? The expectation has to be good football, good run in the cup competition and top 4 finish. Not expecting him to win titles right away but he has to get the team to compete.

With Iraola we have to lower our expectations. This is a manager who has never won anything. I'm not entirely confident with this appointment because I believe Liverpool is not a development project for unproven managers. …All I'm saying is I hope we are all ready to give him time?

Would have been helpful if the club had realised they still wanted to play the type of football you’re describing before they pivoted away from it and hired Slot. Or is it that they simply can’t be arsed with the hassle of recruiting for Slot’s style and have decided to take the easier route instead? If the plan was always to continue Klopp’s work as closely as possible, then Iraola should have been appointed two years ago. The whole thing reflects pretty poorly on the people making the decisions.

@MelissaReddy_ nonsense. Enrique was approached by Barca because of his links to the club. He managed their b team for 3 years and Barca are known to give their b team managers a chance. As for Klopp, his achievements with Mainz got him the Dortmund job. Dortmund were not Fighting for much then

Liverpool want to be an aggressive, front-foot team led by someone who is all in, whose identity is intensity, who will immerse himself in the club through to the academy, and whose hard-working character will endear him to the city. That’s Andoni Iraola. Yes, there are risks. There usually always are bar very rare circumstances. Jürgen Klopp thought he was a risk because he had never worked outside of Germany. Looking at win percentages as a mark of appointing a new head coach/manager is nonsense. Klopp would have never been approached by Bayern Munich or joined Borussia Dortmund in that case. Luis Enrique would have never gone from Celta to Barcelona. It’s about what they’ve achieved relative to means, scaling that, plus their stylistic fit to the club and its ambitions.

@anfieldforge Diomande will sign for psg. He's showing all signs that he has chosen psg. Unfortunately for him, there's kravat and doue ahead of him there. Will be interesting how he copes with that.

If Diomande signs for PSG, his career will probably take off and Liverpool will end up regretting not paying the asking price. If he signs for Liverpool, he'll probably snap his Achilles at the World Cup. That's just our luck these days.
