I'm seeing some excitement about the @ElvisKids study that claims nasal saline drops decrease symptoms duration by 2 days for common colds. Has anyone seen any more of this data outside of the abstract? Until then, I'll remain skeptically optimistic... 🤔#MedTwitter #PedsTwitter

@abdus1801 Both @ELVISstudy & @ElvisKids used hypertonic saline. The mechanism: Cells take up chloride ion (from the thin layer of salt water left behind) to produce hypochlorous acid with which they stop viral replication within the cell. Details are here: nature.com/articles/s4159…

A much needed study to help some Doctors realise the effectiveness of simple saline solution.
I hope someone does the study on adults as well, am pretty sure the results will be astounding.

The ELVIS kids study results are being presented: With a two day reduction in duration of illness, reduction in transmission within households, over the counter medication use, home-made hypertonic saline (2.6%) nose drops were successful in treating children with the common cold

@VejoTae75063 @SkyNews No. Just hypertonic saline. Most commercial mixes have other salts added. This difference is important as the cells need the chloride ion in salt to stop the virus from multiplying within the cell.
