I understand why it seems frustrating at first glance. Prices go up, and it feels like you're being punished at the register for something that doesn’t benefit you directly. But tariffs are not meant to be an overnight fix. They are a long-term investment in rebuilding the strength and independence of our economy. For decades, we've allowed foreign countries, especially China, to dominate our supply chains. They undercut American businesses by using ultra-cheap labor, ignoring environmental standards, and manipulating their currency. That’s how they could sell a product here for $100 while it might cost the same or more to produce it in the United States. American manufacturers could not compete, so they either shut down or moved operations overseas. That hollowed out entire towns and industries. With tariffs, we’re flipping that script. That $100 Chinese product might now cost $245 due to the added import tax. At first, that feels like a burden, but what it really does is level the playing field. Now an American company that also makes that product for $100 has a chance to sell it and make a profit. That means new factories, more jobs, and a resurgence of American industry. It also reduces our dependency on foreign nations that do not have our best interests at heart. China is not just a trade partner; it is a strategic competitor. The less we rely on them for essentials like medicine, semiconductors, and critical materials, the safer and stronger we become as a country. Now add to that the plan to eliminate federal income taxes for anyone making under $200,000 a year. That gives working and middle-class Americans a real raise. You keep more of what you earn, which offsets the short-term increase in prices from tariffs. And as more American companies ramp up production, supply will rise, competition will grow, and prices will come down naturally. That is how real, sustainable economic growth works. It is not about quick relief. It is about restoring national pride, economic independence, and control over our own future. We are playing the long game so that the next generation inherits a country that actually makes things again.
