I recently lost someone big in my life: my grandma, who was really a mother to me. And for the past 2 years I’ve been recording her stories knowing our time together was limited - so I could eventually carry on her legacy. I’m sharing her incredible story below 🧵👇
@editingemily Is there a point with separate terminology for cloud solutions? Cloud is API-driven, self-service infrastructure solutions - public/private/hybrid.
Then you have your own datacenters, or outsourced datacenters.
Different patterns mix these in various ways to get desired outcomes
I think we need different words to describe different implementations of “multi-cloud.” The reasons behind that decision and and what that actually means to different organizations is too vast for one title.
Do you agree?
After 7 amazing years, today is my last day at Amazon. I’ve had the privilege to work with incredible people to build the CDK. I am proud of the what we've built, but most of all, I am inspired by the love, passion and creativity I see in the community ❤️
Off to new adventures!
@QuinnyPig Not so much that is specific for the AWS CDK combo with Python, but things like Pycharm for IDE, poetry for package and dependency management.
Projen can be nice for project generation/templating in general, although it is more evolved on the TS+CDK side.
Got tested positive for Covid-19 today, despite being tripple vaccinated.
Probably due to being tripple vaccinated, it just feels like a nasty cold.
Probably due to the rest of the family being either double or tripple vaccinated, they are all healthy and fine so far :-)
@krisnova I am like a plumber, janitor, handyman combined in a big office building - I make it possible for everyone to focus on their work challenges.
@CatSwetel@rakyll I have had teams named Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc. Was never sure which team did what. Have also been in “team AWS”, which is a bit hilarious, considering that most teams were working with AWS.
How many times have you seen this? Engineer says, "Descriptive variable names are so important," yet the name of their team is something like The Applesauce Top Hat Brigade because of an inside joke from eight years ago.
The purist in me does not like some aspects of workflow and configuration with Publii, the pragmatic in me thinks it may be worth living with if the results are good enough.
Overall, I am happy with the result so far.
The old site used Zola as a static site generator, which was ok.
However, front-end work is not my forte, and the old site needed improvement in terms of looks and design. It was easier to get it better-looking with Publii.
@forrestbrazeal There are some variations of that as well, if you are employed by someone:
- a consulting firm
- a software company, but in a professional services/consulting (post sales) role
There are a few different learnings whether you represent product stack X or not.
Another blog I need to write up soon: "Why every engineer should do a stint in consulting."
• Enforces clear communication, esp. in docs
• Builds empathy for user needs
• Reveals the business impact of code
• Improves "mean time to competence" on new skills
Do you think that the standard #awscdk experience to set up a new project leaves a bit to be desired?
Using #projen can make that better, and you can also define your own project types that fit even better.
