Excited to announce the launch of the Canadian Wildlife Conservation Centre's (a mock NGO developed for this course) brand new website! Has TONS of information on biodiversity and what YOU can do to assist!

@allisonmdennert @ljevanso @niki_wilson That might have been the best explanation i've ever gotten...@allisonmdennert thanks so much for taking the time! If only there were more biologists/ecologists like yourself to educate us all!
English

@ljevanso @em203rgerstein @niki_wilson Some are doing great, and others are doing extremely poorly, but we need lots of different populations of salmon to do well if we want them to be resilient to rapid change. Kind of like how you take on less $$ risk when you have a diverse investment portfolio!

@C_MantykaP @WCS_Canada @usaskSENS @giws @ducanada @UAlberta @environmentca Hey Chrystal, amazing article - was just wondering why haven't governments permitted a compensation model for sustainable agricultural practices? Seems like a solid policy, especially with farm groups having asked for so long now...?
English

Read our article about how changing climate patterns — particularly long-term precipitation and temperature change — are as important as habitat loss for birds on the Prairies.

@MarineMammalCom @vivtulloch @RobHarcourt Incredible study...@vivtulloch was just wondering how many total dolphins and whales are currently falling victim to bycatch per year?
English

#FunFactFriday! Although they are not the cheapest management measure for fisheries, spatial closures can be the most cost‐effective solution for reducing #dolphin and #whale #bycatch. Check out the study by @vivtulloch @RobHarcourt and more: ow.ly/4kkQ50wNWq9

@susan_nerberg @thenarwhalca @KWoudstra @BroadviewMag This species-saving story blew me away. How did you get wind of this? Have you heard any other stories like this - would love to read another story about saving the planet from biodiversity loss - regardless of the size or scale of impact.
English

Thanks to @thenarwhalca for the shout-out to my Ojibwe horse story. And thanks to @KWoudstra and @BroadviewMag for seeing what I saw and assigning it.

@Reynolds_JohnD @cosewic @globeandmail Anything people can do to help save ringed seals from home? Or any other Artctic species?

@riskindan Do you have any stories about a beloved bat species facing critical threats at any point in modern history, or in the present day? Invasive species? Loss of habitat? Would love to know 🧐
English

@Jane_Gerster I loved your article in the Global News about Canadian Biodiversity from back in May! Expanding on your piece about preserving your own backyard, what are a couple things individuals/families can do to assist with conservation from home?
English

“Canada is not doing well on the biodiversity front, and the climate-change effects on Canada are going to be huge.”

Eye opening stuff from Dan

150 years ago lake sturgeon were hated and almost wiped out in the lower Great Lakes by over-fishing & habitat loss. Today they are making a comeback & we have festivals to celebrate them. This is what transformation to a sustainable world looks like. @ConservOptimism @USFWS

@EM203CYAM Love your conceptual map about bullying, you killed that colour scheme! I think an additional solution to modern day bullying problems are anti-bullying hotlines, there are many reports about how helpful they've been for victims of bullying.
English

@NickEM203 Really liked your concept map, especially how you segmented water pollution into human and environmental effects. Think you were spot on connecting toxic water supply's to human risks such as birth defects.
