Very clever, Mr Sowunmi… very clever 👏🏾…👏🏾…👏🏾 There’s only ONE problem with what you’ve written… Other than that, I have no quarrel with any of it as it relates to defending national pride and all that… But that one little problem…a contextual one, as your friend Mr Bwala famously said…is that NONE of what you’ve written here is applicable to the interview in question. Mehdi Hasan was not hostile or belligerent… he was simply following the well known format of his platform. A platform named HEAD TO HEAD! A platform where you’re given -in this case- 6 months to prepare. If anything, at times the interviewer seemed to be the one making a case for the dignity and welfare of Nigerians who his guest was there, ostensibly, to speak for. Bwala LAUGHED when Hasan was questioning him about the NAF airstrikes that caused civilian casualties… for Pete’s sakes sir…what are you on about ?! Bwala DENIED his own public statements. He could have offered an explanation for why his views might have changed, rightly or wrongly we wouldn’t be in a place to judge. He chose to LIE! In front of a global audience! He took a tactical nuclear device and blew himself and his own reputation up with it by himself. No one did that to him. There is a difference between Patriotism and Sycophancy. You are an elder gentlemen who needs no schooling in the that difference. Anyone trying to make it an issue of patriotism in this extant case is just being clever by half. The paradigm you seem to be operating from certainly doesn’t represent the alternative Nigerians are looking for. Rather it sounds like more of the same. Be well.

NigeriaFirst That is how great nations are built through the courage to defend their institutions, their reputation, and their right to be fairly represented in global conversations. Imagine for a moment if the scale of devastation unfolding in the Middle East or the destruction we have witnessed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine were happening in Nigeria. Would it then be acceptable for citizens to metaphorically spit on the grave of their own country simply to satisfy the appetite of hostile commentary or performative criticism? Patriotism demands something higher. Recently, I wrote about the craft of spokesperson interface communication and also addressed the unnecessarily hostile manner in which an interviewer conducted a public exchange with a Nigerian government representative. My position was simple: governments must answer questions, but journalists must also respect the boundaries of professional conduct. Defending the dignity of one’s country in the face of unfair or hostile framing is not propaganda. It is not blind loyalty. It is patriotism. Every serious nation expects its citizens especially those engaged in public discourse to critique responsibly while also refusing to amplify narratives that diminish their country for spectacle. We can debate policy. We can challenge leadership. We can demand better governance. But we should never forget that our national dignity is not a prop for anyone’s performance. Standing up to hostile misrepresentation while still engaging in honest debate is precisely how confident democracies behave. That, in essence, is patriotism. #NigeriaFirst Otunba Segun Showunmi The Alternative

@PoojaMedia Any player that has to be defended this much was not good. We all complained about his lack of playing time at Chelsea in the 2000s. The whole country wanted him to leave Chelsea lmaoo.
