@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna The teammates being so bad from 88 to 90 could be the reason they were the most effective

MJ vs 93 Knicks is wat I think he faced closest to SGA vs Spurs, heavy gap help, baseline rotations, doubles off picks, hard hedges to reroute, and at times quasi-zone coverage. Limited spacing created packed lanes and boxand1 style pressure at times. Also Ewing/Wemby at rim lol

@jayspartan20 @NoWorriesHakuna i agree with that, i mean it would be mentioned if mj wasn’t a crazy jump shooter in those early 90s days, mj playtype/jumpshots tracked

@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna I’d argue it’s most effective against you the worse of a jump shooter you are. It’s like a sliding scale, the better jump shooter you are the less effective it is because no matter what, everyone is forced to take jumpers over it after they’re cut off on a drive. But I agree 1/2

@jayspartan20 @NoWorriesHakuna i agree pistons were most effective(although mj did pretty good against them 89-91) but before 90 the team wasn’t rlly there. regardless heavy shading typically is more effective w less burst

@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna Idk man, there’s a case the pistons were the most effective against him and that was when he was at his athletic peak.

@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna I don’t think Jordan had any athletic limitations those years. He wasn’t as athletic as the 80s and early 90s but he was probably still the best athlete in the league. This is what he was doing at 34 years old.
Jay@jayspartan20

@PovertyFan24 @jackjaxson1988 @UofBasketball @Ballislife I laugh when people claim 2nd 3 peat Jordan wasn’t the best athlete in the league anymore. This is 96. There’s a dunk in 98 on a break where he takes off just inside the FT line and has to duck his head to avoid hitting it on the rim.

@jayspartan20 @NoWorriesHakuna i def think it was harder second 3 peat mainly cs of athletic limitations but i js wanted to point out the defense i think closest to current spurs/scheme similar to shai in that first 5 year span i mentioned

@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna I think it was probably tougher for Jordan 2nd three peat not only because of the defenses and personnel I mentioned, but also because his teammates were worse offensively than the first three peat

@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna 96 Sonics had kemp protecting the rim with Payton, McMillan, wingate, Hawkins, and askew defending on ball. 96 magic had shaq at the rim with nick Anderson, penny, B shaw, Bowie, and Royal to guard on ball

@emanfbtalk @NoWorriesHakuna Idk about that. 96 was really bad, plays like this were common. Triple team any time he gets inside 20 feet, forces him to pass to unguarded non shooter/scorer, no advantage and offense has to reset. 88 89 90 vs pistons are similar. 97 vs heat. The list goes on.

For Kobe it would be the 08 finals vs Cs. Their physical man defense+help rotations did lower his scoring/efficiency(23.3 per75 on a -0.3 rTS) but this series was one of the better showcases of his court mapping and passing. Lakers had a +4.1 opp adj offense this series.

Rewatching the 14 SB, you can see why brady had better success than the previous year(albeit slightly worse defense) the diversity of his formations, the shifts/motions pre snap gettin leverage on dbs, quick game and low variance decision making. It’s just as cerebral as Mannings
eman@emanfbtalk

Great playoff QBs (Mahomes, Brady, Montana, etc)tend to share a mastered quick game that punishes soft coverage then expands field later, formation versatility, off-platform/improv creation, low-variance decisions, and low latency processing that beats disguise/post-snap rotation

From 2010-2012 the NE pats were consistently t1-3 in passing and rushing dvoa, Gronk had an outlier effect on both the pass and running game idk if another TE has had another Gronk lvl production/impact at peak

When talking GOAT TE, it’s Gronk. He was a schematic cheat code. The 2010s New England Patriots could go from UC, to spreading you out bc Gronk functioned as an in-line TE, vertical X, YAC bully, and extra tackle at once. Essentially forcing NBA style mismatch concessions.

@emanfbtalk Tbh, none of this makes sense. SGA is surrounded by 3-point shooters. MJ is not. SGA playing against Wemby, MJ is not.
