While EU presidency was with #Cyprus why wasn't an opportunity created to hold talks with Turkey. It would have been on a different playing field. Why was this avoided? Why are relationships maintained to remain tense?

He had opportunities to act sooner. To steer things in a manner which would have given him great global respect & even a Nobel Peace prize. But the weight of internal politics & short sightedness superceded & sadly he's now in a more awkward position.

We have to choose to move beyond this now. This doea mean forgetting. Not for ANY Cypriot who suffered, whether Turkish or Greek Cypriot.
We must choose light over our dark past. Because if we don't we'll live with trauma for ever.

@eminations I don’t think it’s a silly question at all. Quite a sensible thing to ask one’s self. But when did good sense ever come into the equation? It seems to me, that the powers that be are the ones who benefit the most from keeping Cyprus divided.

I can't help but think that this makes so much sense.
Of course it's not easy but nothing is. When you think of your citizens, their wellbeing, access to amenities, prosperity and opportunities why wouldn't you at least try.
