8 Things To Do When Going For Land Inspection Many people go for land inspection like it’s a picnic. They snap pictures, feel excited… and go home. Meanwhile, they missed the most important things. If you’re serious about buying land, this is what you should do: 1. Don’t go alone Go with a professional, preferably a lawyer or surveyor. Excitement can blind you. Expertise will not. 2. Ask: “Who truly owns this land?” Is it family land, community land, or owned by a company? Ownership determines your risk. 3. Request to see beacons (corner markings) If the land has no clear boundaries, you may be buying stories, not land. 4. Check for signs of disputes Are there buildings half done? Is anyone farming there? Are there warning signs like “This land is not for sale”? Don’t ignore these. 5. Observe the environment Is the land waterlogged? Is there proper road access? Don’t buy land you can’t access or build on. 6. Verify the layout and location Does what you’re being shown match the layout plan? Some people are shown Plot A and allocated Plot Z later. 7. Talk to people around Local information is powerful. Ask questions. You may hear what the seller won’t tell you. 8. Don’t pay on the spot No matter the pressure or “promo.” Go back, verify documents, and carry out due diligence first. Just the other day, I was discussing with a cousin who is a doctor and lives abroad and who looks younger than his age. He said the secret to looking young in your 60s and 70s starts in your 20s. Yes, good genes play a role too, but being intentional with what you eat, managing stress, staying away from alcohol and soft drinks, and living an active lifestyle is the secret to looking ageless in your 60s, and I agree with him. Former Ondo State First Lady Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu is 72 and looks way younger than her age, even though she is 72. You would think she is in her 40s. I once asked her the secret to her youthful looks, and she was honest with me. She has stopped eating rice and garri a long time ago. Instead of garri, she eats unripe plantain flour as a substitute. She jogs and exercises a lot and eats vegetables and fruits a lot, and the results are showing in her looks today. In her words: your gut health is a reflection of your looks in your old age. I believe the pattern of looking ageless is the same. The problem is the discipline to stay true to this course, but it is possible to do so. I hope to see a generation that looks younger and ageless when my generation clocks our 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, but I believe it starts now by being disciplined and intentional about what enters our mouths. Under Akpabio’s leadership, the Senate has become a toothless puppet of President Tinubu’s failed and disastrous regime. Akpabio-led Senate has been approving loans without asking any question.
