I agree with this philosophy. One of my biggest barriers to more VR usage is due to sinus pressure caused by weight of the HMD against my face. Having a headset that feels like a pair of headphones for your eyes is a dream. My Sony WH-1000XM5 are around 250 grams.

Chris Pruett was right at GDC I think. My 16 year old son started wanting to play Quest with me. He never wants to play VR. We started a new co-op game on Medieval Dynasty yesterday and then tonight we played Pixel Dungeon for the first time and he loved it and said it was like Minecraft Dungeons in VR. He didn't want to stop playing. The transition has begun? 😁

Imagine a magic XR headset made by your favorite OEM. It’s standalone, has all the features you want, and comfortable. It’s $999. Would you rather it had Bigscreen Beyond 2 displays and Quest 3 optics, or Vision Pro displays and Vision Pro optics?

One thing I don't get is if this is Meta's entry into this market, it won't be great for much more than just consuming entertainment content. Competitors are looking to entice folks to keep their HMD on for productivity with higher resolutions and PPD. 2560 x 2560 won't be great.

SeeYa Micro-OLED displays are in the backs of your favorite action cameras from Xiaomi and Insta360 and a pair of them are in each pair of RayNeo Air 3S, 3S Pro, 4 and 4 Pro. Their displays are fantastic. Excited to see them in a high volume Meta product.

@josethevrtech You say this as there continue to be new VR games coming out at a steady pace. Even if someone only wanted to invest in VR for new games, quality titles like TMNT: Empire City, Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes, Orbital Overdrive, Affected: The Asylum, etc all out soon.

the gaming industry itself is in disarray, which obviously affects the VR side of things too. But outside of gaming, things are good and getting better. VR is far bigger than gaming. If gaming is your only measure, then of course the industry looks like it’s struggling.

Got to try three colorways of the @htcvive Eagle Glasses today. They have the best audio for music playback of any of this style of glasses. They will soon support YouTube livestreaming. The VIVE AI features can use Gemini or GPT models but only store your info on your phone.
