Yesterday, after 3.5 years of work, I passed my doctoral defence. I'd like to kindly request that from now on everyone refer to me as "The Doctor". I'm looking forward to receiving my Tardis and embarking on wacky adventures through space and time. That's how this works, right?

@psychology_jo @PhDVoice Its tough but also an amazing adventure. Culture shock is real and I had to make a real effort to find friends. Also, I wasn't prepared for having so many language issues in day to day life, and I didn't have the time or mental energy to learn the language and do my PhD.

A question for international PhD scholars: Could you share your experience regarding relocating to a foreign land? (expenses, resources, communication, culture etc.) #PhDVoice @PhDVoice

@naraminkkinen I set rules for myself not to work evenings and weekends, and made sure to have hobbies outside of work, and at some point I found myself just leaving those feelings of "needing to get things done" at the office. And I think my work is better for it.

@naraminkkinen Yes, i get those feelings too, but I've learned it's better to let things be for a while. With revisions, I ALWAYS sleep on it before I begin to make changes. And I almost never work after dinner unless I absolutely have to. Its really important to switch off.

People around me struggle with procrastination but I seem to have an opposite problem: whenever I get a task I feel like I need to finish it asap and won’t eat or sleep until I’m done (figuratively). Like, I get comments on my abstract and rush to edit and resubmit even though->

@DavidJohnBaker Ooh your sysmus talk was great! Will this one be open to anyone? Things I would love advice on: how to network, how to sell your skills as relevant, how to know if my particular skills are a good fit for data science roles.

I'm giving a talk in about two weeks time titled "Considering Plan D: Data Science after Academia" that is going to be a bit of a re-hash of my experience teaching at a bootcamp, but pitched for #musicscience people looking to get entry level-ish analysis roles. >

@deniz_meri I think I would withdraw it if I were you. I have had good experiences with Psychology of Music, Journal of New Music Research, Journal of Research in Music Education, and Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology. I've also heard that Frontiers is fast.

@deniz_meri Mine have usually come back around 3 months. 10 is way too long! Have you emailed the editor? Also, I think you can include a manuscript that's "under review" in your thesis. I did that for one of mine.

Just watched Spielberg's West Side Story having never seen the musical, and the film seemed to me to be a story about toxic masculinity and women knowing better. Is this a modern take, or was Romeo and Juliet always about toxic masculinity? #WestSideStory

@DavidJohnBaker For me, winky emoji means I'm joking, or I understand your joke. I don't think I would ever interpret is as being judgmental. I think that would require raised eyebrows or side-eye. There's an emoji with one raised eyebrow that i think is quite judgy.

I think I have gone long enough without seeing one to make this seem like less of a subtweet, but those of you that use the winky face emoji, are you meaning for it to be low-key judgemental? Or am I projecting insecurities onto inconsequential interactions again?
