Wow! Wow! Wow! North Atlantic sea surface temperature anomalies are going vertical again. And yes, I needed to extend the y-axis. Yesterday's temperature of 24.49°C (76.08°F) was 4.2σ above the 1991-2020 mean. The previous high for July 17 was 23.71°C (74.68°F) in 2020.

One of the most severe marine heatwaves on Earth has developed off the coast of Ireland and the UK, with water temperatures as high as 4-5°C above normal. NOAA's Marine Heatwave Watch has categorized this event as a Category 4 (extreme) marine heatwave.

Bluetooth is named after a one thousand year old Danish king with rotten teeth, and its logo is based on the Viking runes for his initials. But that's all an accident - it was originally supposed to be called Personal Area Networking...

A polyculture of wheat grown with walnut trees produces ~ 40% higher yields. 1 hectare of wheat/walnut mix yields the same as 1.4 hectares of each crop grown separately. This is an example of overyielding.

Sajid Javid says we need to pay £20 for a GP appointment and £66 to go to A&E as a way to solve the NHS funding crisis. He’s wrong because there are so many better options in my new report on funding the NHS. A thread…..

My constituency of Liverpool Walton is the most deprived in England. It has not received a penny of the Levelling Up Fund. Of the 80 successful bids in England, only half are in the 100 most deprived areas. The Prime Minister's affluent constituency, however, received £19m.

I am not a troublemaker. I dont want to piss anyone in the media off. But this is, as David Attenborough says, 'our biggest threat in thousands of years'. It should be front page news. Not Harry or celebrities or Rishi Sunak. EVERYTHING is at risk. youtube.com/watch?v=3D0oUr…
