Excited to join @theinformation covering the A.I. boom in San Francisco. I'll be tracking where the new money is going, how tech culture is shifting, and what it all means for the city itself. I started today. DMs open for tips, coffee, or just to say hi 👋

@mcdermott a tad ironic to note google zero w/o even a linkback in your tweet? otherwise, strong points ;)

Bezos is still under the delusion that quantity of content is more important than quality. This was the guiding philosophy for Vice, BuzzFeed, Mic, HuffPo, Gawker and so many other 2010s digital publications — flood the internet with content, don’t worry about building long-term brand value, just get as many pageviews as possible and sell display ads against them. All of these publications are now shells of their former selves. This model is even harder now with Google Zero approaching. Dumb.

Interesting results but perhaps a skewed playing field. AI thrives in a contextless void. Online pop-quizes aside, most writing and communication does not originate from a place of nothingness. Ask your fav chatbot for something as simple as an email to a friend or family member; it won't work
Kevin Roose@kevinroose

We made a blind taste test to see whether NYT readers prefer human writing or AI writing. 86,000 people have taken it so far, and the results are fascinating. Overall, 54% of quiz-takers prefer AI. A real moment! nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei told employees on Friday that the OpenAI-Pentagon deal was "safety theater" and the Trump administration didn't like Anthropic because it hadn't "given dictator-style praise to Trump." He expressed skepticism at the safeguards OpenAI touted.

Unfortunately for Bad Bunny no performance in San Francisco will never top Future's at the 2012 NFC divisional

Today’s pathetic Sunday paper print edition finally pushed me over the edge after 40+ years of home delivery. I’ll hold onto my digital subscription, but its increasingly Trump-adjacent takes on everything domestic are really hard to take. Thank God for the brilliant veterans on the foreign and natsec staffs.

I’ve worked with many of the journalists who signed this letter and call them friends. They are superb at what they do. Generous. Tireless. This plea is for more than their jobs. They know that cutting foreign coverage may hasten the Post’s demise.
ErikWemple@ErikWemple

Update on turmoil at the Washington Post that I’ve been following w @BenMullin: Foreign correspondents at WaPo have sent a letter, a “collective plea,” to owner Jeff Bezos raising alarm over impending staff reductions, which are expected to land hard on international coverage.

@TommyGunnNBA It’s fine … bygones be bygones … Klay needed a fresh start, Warriors needed — and still need — younger, consistent players. Would a humbled, elder Klay who accepted a role as a seventh or eighth guy on the W’s be a fit? Maybe. But was never gonna happen in the previous context

@ToolmanTA @nikotaughtyou This was an obvious outcome right? at least 50 pct or better odds. He didn’t fit last year. There were bad vibes and drama. He got benched for the playoffs. Why would it be any better this year?

@nikotaughtyou Ultimately dubs made a big bet that keeping Jk around would get them a better trade return at the trade deadline instead of taking the kings offer in the summer Fans never considered that his trade value could still get lower 🤦‍♂️

@TommyGunnNBA he's an egomaniac. He thinks because he is rich he can manifest whatever he wants, even people. He attributed his ability to spend money and hire basketball people to winning championships while denigrating the greatest player in franchise history and a top player of all time.

Didn’t think much of it when I heard it, but relevant with the Aiyuk stuff. Chris Simms on Christian McCaffrey: “He goes and I think even leaves practice sometimes and trains with his own guys and does that, but they trust him because they know he’s the ultimate professional.”
