@Searcherseek And speaking of differences of opinion, how do you approach Kabbalah? How do you approach things in our tradition that might have been adopted from other nations or sources. Not Kabbalah per se but even something we central as tefillin has ambiguous origins.

@emsbrypostlwait I don't say anything. But you see this in the prophets. If you see Israel as a nation and the Torah as a collection of its religious writings, this shouldn't be surprising. Differences today among the Jewish nation? Nothing new.

We're going the prophetic route. Social justice > sacrifices.

@RationalSettler We’re not going back to animal sacrifice. They can remain a museum piece.

@Searcherseek Curious your critique of modern orthodox? How do we know something new is “coming next” rather than a doubling down of orthodoxy on one hand and secularism on the other?

I think what comes next has to transcend denominations like Reform or conservative. I feel like like Heschel had good answers for religion and modernity. Modern orthodoxy did a terrible job on this synthesis. But Heschel was more liminal. He went beyond this dichotomy.

I think that Rav Kook went the furthest of any Orthodox Jewish rabbi in criticizing Orthodox Judaism about what is deadening to the spirit about it, while trying his hardest not to upend the whole thing. He is very conflicted in his writing.

@Cernovich Exactly!!! Tell someone that’s been living in some fluorescent hell hole with cancer for the last 2 years how great modernity has been. I’m not saying the agrarian age was some bucolic Eden but one could make the argument the industrial rev was not the improvement we think it was

Machine guns made WWI a horror show. These midwit takes where you point out tech that worked out is TEDIOUS. Not to mention, you’re clueless. Monsanto, glyphosate, much farming tech has led to bad outcomes.
007_Smiley@nw_alapont

@Cernovich Tractors: made the farmer more efficient and created industry for steel, rubber, oil, mechanics. Elevator buttons created industry for the button technology and electricity, etc, but the elevator man was obsolete. Look beyond what you think you know...

@FoRRTrES @Cernovich The idea that our failed wars in the Middle East were on the behalf of Israel is false. They were on behalf of our own military industrial complex. Israel doesn’t control us, we control them and make them buy our weapons. Cut the Pentagon budget by at least half if u want change!

@_uncleseymour @Cernovich The money we give israel is not small, depending on who you ask, we've spent 8-16 trillion dollars in the M.E., and it was fighting israel's enemies. The dead US soldiers, the purpose of which was fighting israel's enemies, what dollar amount would you put on that?

2028 is going to be an interesting election cycle because Israel / Gaza is one of those issues that people like Tim Dillon, and many many others, don’t see in the conventional Republican way.

@FoRRTrES @Cernovich This position is insane. “My life sucks because the Jews have a state in the Middle East.” I don’t think we should give other nations money either. But the money we give Israel (in weapons coupons) is infinitesimal and has no effect on your life. America First > Fight Israel.

@Cernovich Most of us on the right didn't care about Israel prior to Oct 7th. Now many of us are asking, why am I eating shit at some job I hate everyday to fund someone else's ethno-state?

@njdevils_dude @MaxNordau martyrmade’s hatred for Judaism runs deep. He claims it’s “only Israel” but if you follow his work you can tell it’s a hatred rooted in the New Testament. As for Dave Smith, I guarantee he converts to Christianity by the end of the year.

@PaulSkallas How is protecting Qatar America first? And how are these deals for investment into massive corporations like Boeing helpful to most Americans? If this trip leads to peace around the world then it’s a success but the rest of it seems like a charade to me.

@JBMIANYC @Cernovich The terminology needs to be updated. There is no such thing as “Zionism” or “semitism”. There is just Judaism. And it is inherently connected to the land of Israel based on their origin text. Same way Muslims are connected to Mecca and Sikhs to Amritsar. Not that complicated.

@Cernovich Also: The Holocaust has been weaponized. Everyone is accused of being a Nazi or Anti Semite who opposes regime changes or Neocon orthodoxy. Censorship is employed to "defend Israel".

If Zionism is a political stance, then why has anti-Zionism been deemed anti-Semitic? You can’t have it both ways. If it’s an ideology, then it can be attacked and opposed like any other political view. But that’s NOT what people have been saying lately. So. Which is it?
Guy Benson@guypbenson

What? Zionism is a political stance — rooted in facts, history and morality, imo — not “identity politics.” I’m also a proud Zionist & not Jewish. It’s a viewpoint, not an identity.

Guy, what are you even arguing here? Zionism is morality and facts? Ok? That seems like a reasonable description. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Zionist or an anti Zionist. Is being Jewish not an identity? Is a belief in a Jewish State not identity politics?
