Excited to share our preprint where we identified impaired mitochondrial metabolism as a driver of epithelial plasticity and primary tumor escape in metastasis. This was a big collaboration with lots of people from VUMC as well as the NCI!

Happy to share @enarner preprint on mitochondrial metabolism and kidney cancer metastasis--This ongoing project started with @KimrynRathmell using patient data to show inhibition of oxphos promotes EMT and primary tumor escape. Great work Emily! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

If you’ve made it this far in my tweet, come check out my poster tomorrow between 2-5pm! I’ll be presenting my post-doc work about a metabolic switch we identified that controls tumor cell metabolism and metastasis in kidney cancer. Come see me in Section 12, board 24!

AXL-TBK1 driven AKT3 activation promotes metastasis | Science Signaling science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Long saga, but it is out. @enarner and a host of others pushed this through. Special thanks to Jim Lorens and his lab @UiB

It’s finally out!! It’s been 3 years since I graduated with my PhD from UTSW, but my last first-author paper from grad school and the culmination of my thesis work has finally been published in @scisignal!! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

We found that TBK1 activates the specific AKT isoform, AKT3, to drive stability of EMT transcription factors for subsequent EMT and metastasis!

So excited to be here @uvaurology ! And very thankful for the incredible OR staff, nurses, residents and faculty colleagues that I get to work with here!

Congrats to @may_alley on her first #nephrectomy with us! She and Dr. Tella earned those smiles! (P.S. That frowny kidney emoji is a pretty good representation of what they removed, because trust us... that kidney was NOT happy.) #uvaurology #streamteam #urologiconcology
