@envinyon for years and years people have complained that the abundance of OGCDs makes healing too easy because they have no cost or management involved somehow now if you have to press any GCD other than Glare, game bad??

@tyabann_da I think somehow people interpreted this as me wanting healing to be easier and like no I think a big issue with healers is that healing is too easy and not engaging outside of anything but the hardest content in the game

part of why I'm looking forward to 8.0 is the removal of raid buffs and jobs being self-contained opens the door for more interesting resource management

or indirectly where gcds like primal rend/ruination means there's genuinely no space in your burst to even put fell cleaves, so its resource plays no role in that at all and now its just become something you don't want to overcap on and that's it

honestly probably the reason why I've been drawn to reaper and red mage in recent times is I feel like their gauges are actually pretty important

@Gourgeist except you have things like holos, pneuma, haima, panhaima, physis 2 for sage that all don't interact with addersgal at all, they're just free cooldowns. And frankly resources barely have to be managed with sage with how quickly you build addersgall

I think its weird on any job when you have a resource and then a bunch of cooldowns that do not interact with or utilize that resource I feel like dark knight's salted earth should like give you blood gauge or something when enemies stand in it

honestly this take isn't even exclusive to healers, I think building gauges and managing them as a resource is just more fun and engaging than having a bunch of cooldowns

@CuriouserThing paladin was arguably tank's black mage, but it unfortunately had a lot of utility, and back then they were obsessed with the idea that a jobs couldn't have a lot of damage if they also had a lot of utility, so they felt the need to change it to fit the mold of the others

You could only do so well within the limitations of the fight and what you have to do to keep uptime while satisfying every mechanic. You want to use all your xenoglossies in buffs, you want to use af1 f3p after every ice phase, but that wasn't always viable.

"players will make it so anything less than Optimal" is also untrue! Non-standard black mage existed for a long time, and no one ever got on anyone's case for not doing it. Black Mage was even just *impossible* to play optimally

The ideal is jobs being easy to pick up and play but harder to optimize I honestly think EW black mage fit this perfectly. What you actually want to do is straightforward, and it really doesn't matter if you have perfect uptime in casual content
