To reduce the risk of wildfire and support public safety, we are planning for a likely Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning on Saturday, March 14, around 2 p.m., potentially impacting about 43,000 customers in Boulder and Jefferson counties. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for this weather event and has indicated this will be the warmest and driest day of this stretch of high fire danger. Wildfire risk and outages are expected to continue through the weekend. Prepare for potential outages now, especially if you use medical equipment that requires electricity. @XcelEnergyCO There is still snow in the foothills and the wind forecast for the 14th is 25mph. Why would there be a PSPS on the 14th?

We are planning for a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning on March. 14 around 2 p.m., impacting customers in Boulder and Jefferson counties. Weather conditions are expected to start improving around 5 p.m., March. 14, though high winds that may create wildfire risk and cause outages are expected to continue through the weekend. It is possible that customers impacted by weather-related outages on Thursday, March 12, may experience additional disruption due to either a possible PSPS or high winds on Saturday, March 14. We recognize that is a significant inconvenience and we work hard to limit the time customers spend without power. Prepare for potential outages now, especially if you use medical equipment that requires electricity. To learn more about the evolving situation, visit xcelener.gy/3OXOl7c

Statins slightly raise diabetes risk — mostly in patients already pre-diabetic (PMID: 38337041). Absolute excess ~1 in 250 over 4 yrs, while preventing ~5 vascular events (PMID: 22577127). Risk small. Benefit large. @PatronBB74

@MohammedAlo Was there something new or are you citing the 2017 study? If so, they refer to LDL as “a” causal factor not the “the” causal factor.

As of 11 a.m. today, crews have restored power to over 85% of customers impacted by Friday’s event. We expect most customers who remain without power to be restored by Sunday evening. Estimated restoration times will continue to be updated on our Outage Map. Our crews continue to discover damage to our system caused by the severe weather in remote areas around Boulder and Evergreen, including damaged poles in areas inaccessible by foot that will need to be replaced using helicopters. Outages for the customers served by these damaged power lines may extend beyond Sunday evening. We know losing power is difficult, especially extended outages, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and the kindness you've shown our field crews during this extreme weather event. newsroom.xcelenergy.com/news/xcel-ener…

As of 5 p.m. today power has been restored to over 60% of customers impacted by the proactive Public Safety Power Shutoff and extreme winds. Crews have employed drones and helicopters to help inspect lines and identify needed repairs in more remote locations and areas with difficult terrain. We expect most customers to see their power return by 10 p.m. tonight. Estimated restoration times will continue to be updated on our electric outage map at co.my.xcelenergy.com/s/outage-safet…. Multi-day outages are difficult, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as our crews work to restore power to all impacted customers.

As many Coloradans await the return of power to their homes and communities, I want to urge everyone not to take their frustrations with power being out on the hardworking men and women who make up the Xcel crews. The company and its crews are working around the clock to ensure our safety and to restore power. While I have expressed great frustration with Xcel and there’s much room for improvement in communications about what’s going on and timelines, I am grateful for Xcel’s frontline workers and all those people working to restore people’s power. Please thank them if you see them.

Thank you for reaching out. Here is a better explanation of the outage map and what to look for. I do apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. While using the Outage Map, you will notice triangular icons representing planned outages associated with Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). By clicking on these triangles, you can access detailed information about each preplanned outage in the corresponding area. Additionally, a comprehensive list of all current outages—including both active and planned events—is available on the left-hand side of the map. As you scroll through this section, you will see up-to-date information on all outages. To determine whether your location is affected, simply enter your address in the search bar. The map will automatically zoom to your area, allowing you to quickly identify if your address is currently impacted or scheduled to be part of an outage. If you have any further questions, please call our Customer Contact Center at 1-800-895-4999. Representatives are available to assist you Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CST. We will answer calls about outages and emergencies 24/7.

Based on current forecasts of extreme wind and critically dry conditions, a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) will be required for customers in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties on Friday, Dec. 19, beginning as early as 5 a.m. Weather conditions are expected to start improving around 6 p.m. Friday evening, though high winds that may create wildfire risk and cause outages are expected to continue through the evening. As with yesterday’s weather, there may be unplanned outages outside of the PSPS event due to high winds or Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings. For updated information on restoration efforts and potential areas of impact, visit: xcelener.gy/490kzET In the meantime, crews are working to restore power for all customers impacted by yesterday’s weather and our initial PSPS. See how we are continually investing in and building out our systems to reduce the risk of wildfire and limit the size, scale and duration of potential power disruptions: xcelener.gy/490kAbV Tips for how to prepare for an outage are available here: xcelener.gy/490kAIX

Per Xcel, state is at about 76,000 without power, down from almost 100K earlier today. But #Boulder County has actually climbed from 16,000 to 23,000 due to more unplanned outages

Re: My skepticism regarding GLP-1 drugs for obesity Yes, these drugs are effective for some people. However, don’t get carried away yet, especially for calls for the widespread use of these drugs. I am old enough to have seen the rise and fall of: The jejuno-ileal bypass Very low calorie diets Vertical banded gastroplasty Phen-Phen Gastric bands Orlistat Each of these was greeting with substantial enthusiasm and, given enough time, failed when long-term problems became apparent. Semaglutide roared onto the scene as the cure for obesity. With time, its side effects and limitations became apparent. It took little time before a new class of drugs with multi-receptor properties were advocated as the perfect solution for obesity. The history of weight loss interventions suggests that these new drugs will also have problems and be abandoned when the next, greatest drug is promoted by Pharma. I’d like to be wrong on this, but I have been around long enough to experience this cycle repeatedly.

Whew! I had to mute that thread. A lot of people think I'm a pretty awful person for... babysitting, like a normal GenX kid did? At least one person said that my parents must not have loved me?!? 🤣 Wait until they find out I also rode my bike home from school alone when I was 9. That was normal! My elementary school had a big bike rack out front for kids who rode to school, believe it or not. Safetyism has gotten completely out of control these days. A few key points I want to add: - There is no GA law about what age kids can be left alone or babysit siblings. There are some "suggested guidelines" from DFCS, but they are *not* laws. - A "one-year-old" could be 23 months. And I probably babysat my brother when he was 1, but I *definitely* babysat him when I was 10 and he was 2. And I babysat for neighbors with several children. - I'm not saying this guy made the best choice. I don't know the family situation, and I wasn't there. But it's entirely possible for a 10-year-old to be capable of watching their two siblings. - Would I have done this? Probably not, but I have lots of options because I have more resources than this guy. Those criticizing him should try to have some empathy for a young father who it sounds like was in a tough situation. - Unless the kids were actually hurt or showing actual signs of abuse or neglect, I don't think an arrest made anything better for this family. Now he has to spend money he doesn't have to go to court, probably leave the kids alone more, it may be harder for him to get a job... The arrest has only made things worse.
Kelley K@KelleyKga

For what it's worth, when I was 10 years old, I not only babysat my 2-year-old brother, but I also got paid to babysit OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN. I still have the card certifying that I completed the Red Cross Babysitting course when I was 10.
