if these topics in fiction didnt have an impact on real life pre-teens, my 3 friends from highschool at the time wouldnt have been groomed by old men. We used to read terrible terrible romance novels, with these kind of depictions, and we normalized and romantized these things.

here’s my take on this: i’m uncomfortable with romanticized portrayals of grooming/pedophilia in shoujo precisely BECAUSE it’s shoujo, aka the primary demographic is children ages 9-17. i think it’s possible for adults to depict and dissect “problematic” tropes in fiction-
