Couldn’t agree more. I did everything I could behind the scenes… emails, social media, camps… anything and everything I could to get coaches out. But when our team got placed at complexes far from coach traffic, it hit me how real the “recruiting bubble” is. I’ve been at showcases with zero coach activity. I lived it for years. Once I finally picked up with another team (that my team had beaten in the past), I was on prime fields, packed with coaches. Eye-opening. My game hadn’t changed. The competition I played wasn’t much different. The crazy part… I hadn’t even done the work behind the scenes with many of the coaches that stopped to watch me, but I was inside the “bubble” and all of a sudden I had visits and offers lined up. #recruitingtruths

I saw less than 20 coaches total all weekend…some games, I was the only set of eyes on ANY field 🤯 In those 20 conversations, it was evident and clear who they were there to see. It wasn’t by chance that they showed up!! My point 👉🏼Tourneys will shout and tout about “exposure” and “college coaches attending” but the truth is unless the players are handling business before, during, and after tourneys, no one is being seen, evaluated, or exposed 💯 It goes beyond social media and tagging coaches. It goes beyond just showing up and hoping to be seen. It goes beyond just thinking that they’ll find you. #recruitingtruths

"Make your least favorite player your favorite by the end of the season " - Ron Johnson (RIP) One of the best pieces of coaching advice given to me from RJ. Nothing more challenging yet rewarding when managing a club.

I've had to watch and evaluate a lot of hitters lately. It's evident how important and common good swings come from getting "to the middle" or keeping your head between your feet during your swing. This may help someone out there.

@BrianWilder @ShowersGreg @JWonCATCHING Meaning- your secondary is over zealous if you can't get back on ANY line drive. Priority is to not get doubled off on ANY line drives. Baserunning 101. In this example- his secondary is pre committed as he crosses over early.

@ShowersGreg @JWonCATCHING Yeah after you have taken your secondary which has you leaning the wrong way. Most will be out on a liner in the infield if they took their proper lead and a secondary. If the fielder catches it on balance your toast

I’M WRITING THIS IN CAPS SINCE I’M YELLING AT BASE RUNNERS & BASE RUNNING COACHES AT EVERY LEVEL. STOP GETTING DOUBLED ON LINE DRIVES IN THE INFIELD. WE HAVE CUED IT INCORRECTLY & REPPED IT POORLY FOR YEARS. 1) ACTUALLY “GO BACK ON LINE DRIVES.” 2) MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU MUST

If you are playing showcase/travel/college prep softball or baseball and not putting in the work to be reliable on routine plays, you're not going to be well liked by your teammates. It's a terrible feeling to be outed by the game that you're not prepared. Invest in your success.

As I get older, I appreciate more and more how my parents affected my development. They sat away from everyone else, didn’t gossip about my teammates, let the coaches coach, and trusted the work I put in. No excuses about umpires, coaches, weather, etc. It was all on me.

Travel Coaches: High School baseball during HS season ALWAYS comes first. For those travel organizations telling their families & players, you don't need to play high school ball because there aren't any scouts there or the HS coaches are bad. Get over yourself! C'mon people! Immediate red flag! High school baseball will provide some of the best memories for these players. There's nothing like competing with the guys you go to school with every day. The best programs (travel & HS) work together to take care of their players. Because that's what it's all about..THE PLAYERS! What will a college coach say when you tell them you chose not to play HS? 🤦🏼‍♂️

🧵 1/ Clarifying the NCAA’s recent ruling to cut D1 baseball rosters to 34 spots by Dec. 1. 🏫⚾ There's been a lot of confusion, so let's break down what this decision means for athletes, coaches, and the sport overall. 👇

@pitchingschool Coached many guys who were in your program. Never had to impose recovery or proper arm prep with any of them. They often influenced less motivated guys to join in. Always recommended your facility to families looking for arm tool improvement. Surely name smearing by competitor.

Hearing negativity about our High School VIP Program from people who’ve never set foot in our facility is disappointing but not surprising. The reality is that they have no idea what goes into our program—the individualized training, advanced technology, and dedicated coaching and resources we provide. We’re focused on helping athletes achieve their goals, not engaging with those who don’t understand what we do. To the players and families who trust us: thank you. Your results speak louder than words. 💪⚾ #VIPProgram #ResultsMatter #HardWorkPaysOff"

Club Teams/Coaches 1. I was at my first club team forever (7 years). My coach was an incredible teacher of the game with an amazing attention to detail. I learned just about everything I know about the game from him and my teammates were very talented. I am proud of what we built together. 2. Our club was not part of a larger org and as we transitioned into 14U and prepared for recruiting, our team kept getting better and we were always working to get to the best fields. We were probably at our peak when we tied for the 14u supplemental power pool championship. We thought we were set with our Colorado showing and went to some major showcases in the fall only to be placed on literally the back corner field at a complex where no college coaches were at to begin with. 3. We were a two team org. and I played on both teams going back to when I was 14-15. Our team spent many big showcase tournaments with little to no coaches watching. 4. I now understand why it never made sense to give our club an opportunity at the better fields in a showcase or invitational. There were no future teams or future $$ from our club for the people in charge of the tournaments. 5. With this uphill battle, last fall we finally made a breakthrough. We had lost a couple great players, but the team was on fire and we won the Alliance Super Cup Qualifier. This was HUGE. It secured the Super Cup tournament at the main fields in Aurora followed by the Sparkler Power Pool, a TC Nationals invite, and Alliance Nationals. 6. It’s hard to convince anyone to join your team if you don’t have a track record of placing players at the programs they’re interested in. With our upcoming schedule and opportunity for recruiting, we still went into the summer with only 2 pitchers and 11 players total. That didn’t work so well. 7. I knew I needed to face this kind of competition more to prepare for Oregon State, but the chances of my team rebounding and finding a way to get back playing elite teams at the 18u level were very low. Many coaches had contacted me over the summer asking what my plans for the next season were. I had told so many no in the past. I was loyal to my team for years and never really believed much of what these other coaches would tell me, since their agendas seemed pretty clear. This was different- I was the one questioning if my team was right for me. I had run out of time if I wanted to push myself and face the very best 18U hitters in the country in my last club year. My goals didn’t stop just because I was committed, so I joined a well known national team out of Phoenix @azrisingappel with awesome coaches and stud players. 8. What seems like an easy decision was difficult, and as a result, my original team fell apart. Some may think I was selfish, but I know I did my best to hold up my end of the bargain for a long time. I’m happy with my decision. 9. My advice: If your goal from club is to play at the highest level in college, find a coach like my first one and learn everything you possibly can. These coaches usually aren’t the ones you hear about at the top of the travel ball world, because it’s nearly impossible to keep strong recruiting relationships if you aren’t coaching 16s or 18s all the time. Sometime between 14u and 16u, you should transition to a coach known for recruiting at the level you’re interested in. Once you’re playing 16U showcase tournaments, you probably need to be in a larger org that will get you placed at the best fields. You can do it like I did, but it isn’t cheap to pay for your own exposure and it doesn’t work very well without someone who can open doors for you. I wouldn’t change my path, but I can’t recommend it. On the other hand, playing elite competition in front of college coaches constantly when a scholarship is on the line is a mental challenge as well, so you just need to pick the hard path that is right for you.
