I largely agree with this, and was thinking something similar myself. I see a lot of people going scorched earth over the $12 fee and canceling, be it for affordability or principle and I respect that fully, but I will not be doing the same.
Maybe it is my profession in it that helps me understand that for D2D maintaining millions of titles earning nothing is a burden. And this fee adds a small cost on being a slop farm. Sure it impacts genuine real honest author too, and it feels like one more cost to do business on top of 100 others, so it stings more, but the way I have always looked at things, I either treat this as a business and grind, or treat it as a hobby and plan to lose as part of the joy I get alone.
