Dry air continues to flow in...and will be in control through the weekend. Just an outstanding stretch over the next several days. Next significant rain chance doesn't roll in until sometime around Monday-Tuesday. #wbz

@ericfisher I realize that you can’t rely completely on predictive models but if you are reasonably confident that we are headed for a wetter pattern, could we scale back the dire drought rhetoric?

Just my $0.02 but I think we will end up looking at this July as the hinge point where we left the dry overall pattern of the past year and a half and start a wetter regime. El Nino should bring plenty of moisture heading into fall and winter. #wbz

The pendulum inevitably swings back the other way eventually anyway but the rapid shift towards a strong el nino is as good a reason as any to expect a shakeup of the status quo.

@DHTheWeatherNut Sounds like a good AI project to cross-reference road closures DOT reports etc and see if you find trends

@ericfisher I guess it’s possible, Eric, but it’s truly been my observation that certain areas in Northampton, for example, street-flood easier / faster in the past but without actual rate and volume measurements I can’t prove or disprove my perception, which is what it is vs. an actual ob.

Rained for all of 10 minutes and still did a decent job of flooding out the parking lot

@ericfisher Neither of those years really added up during July here on the Southcoast but were definitely better than most dry summers.

Anecdotally July 2014 was the last July i can remember we had a similar infusion of non TS moisture here on the Southcoast. Featured two over achievers including the 6”* July 4th deluge. One of the only storms that killed recent transplants with the heavy downpour - shifted our tp strategy after that for tender starts. Similar feels. Kinda fun to have a different growing template.

@ericfisher Eric, is it possible that sub-surface soil composition can be altered hydrological changes over time, to make some areas perc better or worse? Just seems like it takes less rain to produce street flooding and looking these days, at least in parts of WMass…

Now in the 8-12" range for rain in the past month across south-coastal New England Everyone else doing pretty well, too. Feels like we've started making the turn into wetter El Nino times
