Dear parents, if you died today, not in theory, but right now, will your children still eat three meals a day? Will they access healthcare without a harambee? Will they go to school without being sent home for fees?
If the answer is no, then you are not safe. You are surviving. And that illusion that you're “doing okay” is a very fragile lie.
In functioning countries, systems exist so that when a parent dies, the child’s life doesn’t collapse. Education is free, healthcare is covered, and food doesn’t depend on salary dates. The family mourns, but doesn’t starve.
In Kenya, one funeral and the entire household falls into poverty. You lose a job and suddenly your kids are skipping meals and defaulting on school fees. That’s not resilience. That’s economic roulette.
The so-called middle class needs to stop clapping for systems that would kill them with just one medical emergency. If your lifestyle is one accident away from fundraising on WhatsApp, you’re not middle class, you’re poor with a car.
Ask yourself the hard question.... if you disappear today, what exactly remains for your children?
And if the answer scares you then you need to start posting using the hashtag #WeAreThe99

@Kambua @uber_kenya In Nakuru it is worse. They have their own price table. The Uber price doesn't work. They just use the app to get clients. Watu wa Nairobi wakienda wanapigwa na culture shock 😅

Can @uber_kenya really not fix the, “where are you? Where are you going”? That drivers subject us to?

Shujaa, our harbingers to #ParisOlympics are safely landed in France. #TeamKenya is prepared for #Paris2024 than it has ever been for any Olympics in history. Let's all rally around our flag and enjoy the spectacle of sports' pinnacle show.

MPs are laughing at us after murdering innocent people, they have zero empathy or compassion, and they clearly lack emotional intelligence. They were bribed to vote for the bill, and citizens paid with their blood to stop it.
