Very sad to hear of the death of the ABC’s Peter Ryan OAM, at just 64. I first worked against him in Melbourne in the 1980s, a fine journo and a gentleman of the old school. My thoughts with his wife and family.

So it seems they’ve finally murdered him. I followed Alexey Navalny around Russia in 2017. Funny, charming, principled, insanely brave. And how the Kremlin feared him. Navalny’s very existence was a daily reminder of what an amoral little man Vladimir Putin is and will always be.

Twenty years ago today I was injured in a suicide bombing that killed cameraman Paul Moran. He was the first media casualty of the Iraq war. Paul was one of the finest cameramen I worked with, a loving husband to Ivana and loving father to his baby daughter Tara. 1/
