@grahamscheper fyi the article of mine that Rafa is disputing doesn't say proto-Germanic meter was identical to OE meter. I said there was no good reason to believe it allowed the wonky forms that it would have to allow, if parts of Widsith were pre-migration

Scholars sometimes assume Proto-Germanic meter was identical to Old English, but we know this is not true. Reconstructed verses such as "erþō andi upp-himinaz" (which survives into OE, ON, OHG, OS) scan as / x x x / \ x, which would be unthinkable in Old English.
