Open Streets days are Minneapolis's best days. Letting them end would be foolish.

Public Works says they want events that are explicitly about biking, walking, and transit. Open Streets is "about" that, of course, but biking and walking and transit shouldn't be the goal. They're a means to an end. The goal is a better, happier, more sustainable city.

I believe one of our city's most dangerously depleted resources is trust. In healthy cities, people build and maintain trust by interacting with each other. I don't know many events that foster spontaneous, positive encounters between diverse groups of people like Open Streets.

@mplsalex @GettingGophery @evanrobertsnz The lack of separation from pedestrians does get annoying when there are a lot of people walking around downtown, and I wish we had a downtown people walked around enough for me to be annoyed by it more often.

@mplsalex @GettingGophery @evanrobertsnz I guess I would say they’re for me? I occasionally use them to get places on Hennepin and I usually enjoy it, especially compared with what we had before. I’d enjoy it more with fewer cars, but that’s true everywhere.
