@erotomanes
here all our thoughts are fixed upon the love that beatifies creation. here we learn how world below is moved by world above.

i ask why things look like that because i write about the aesthetics and design around technology. I write at cultholdings.co and bechac.substack.com thank you everyone for your answers

@erotomanes Actual computer is probably just a small chip, everything else is a cooler from my understanding

English

@erotomanes it's 99% a stupidly strong freezer, it's like trying to run a processor but you're plugging the entire thing straight into a nuclear reactor at full blast, except the processor gets too much energy from the environment instead of just being fed too much the normal way
English

@erotomanes Only in pictures and during maintenance. Otherwise every cooling stage is covered.
English

It’s mostly a super-cold refrigerator called a dilution fridge. The stacked gold plates gradually cool the system down to just above absolute zero so the tiny quantum chip at the bottom can function without heat or electrical noise destroying its quantum state. Most of the machine is actually infrastructure for cooling, shielding, and controlling a processor only a few centimeters wide.
English

@erotomanes Because it need to be isolated from the world as much as possible to work, the central part that you see is a multi stage cryocooler, normally enclosed in cans it will cool the chip down to helium level of nonsense. And around it is a giant Farraday cage.
English

@erotomanes You're not looking at a QM computer part, but at a super advanced cooling device. For a QM computer to work, it requires entanglement, but that can get screwed up by the tiniest amount of radiation.
English

@erotomanes It's a cooling system. In order for quantum bits to function they need to be in a state of minimum decoherence which means almost entirely isolating them from the universe and this means no heat can be present. The actual "computer" is a quantum chip controlled by other computers
English

@erotomanes It's all a big freezer. Each layer is colder than the next. The CPU is only at the center of the bottom.
English

@erotomanes Why aren’t such questions immediately followed by these simple 5 characters?

Unironically: finally someone has the guts to say it. One day we will look at cars the same way we look at lead water pipes. Number two worst technology after AI.

Hokusai said, “From the age of six I had a penchant for copying the form of things, and from about 50, my pictures were frequently published; but until the age of 70, nothing that I drew was worthy of notice. At 73 years, I was somewhat able to fathom the growth of plants and trees, and the structure of birds, animals, insects, and fish. Thus when I reach 80 years, I hope to have made increasing progress, and at 90 to see further into the underlying principles of things, so that at 100 years I will have achieved a divine state in my art, and at 110, every dot and every stroke will be as though alive."
