European School Chess Championship 2024

Last Wednesday, we hosted an 'International Dinner Party' for all of the delegations. As part of that event, we put on a fun quiz that included a photoboard and some quiz questions. (e.g. Who was the 1st official world champion?) @ECUonline @FIDE_chess @IrishChessUnion

I'm home after 9 days in the beautiful @UL campus. I was running the media office for the @escc2024 The Turkish chess federation had a huge delegation and they won the gold in all 12 sections. When was the last time that a country won all sections in a european chess event?

I have been working at the @escc2024 this week in @UL and we interviewed Adamjeet Singh, aged 9. His family are from Bradford, and he told me that @MarkTWIC is a very weak player, and he will beat him the next time they play! Fighting words!

We asked some of the players if they prefer e4 or d4. e4 emerges victorious 10-4. As Bobby Fischer said, 1. e4 is best by test and the kids know it. @IrishChessUnion @ECUonline @FIDE_chess @chessable @ChessKidcom

This morning we had some students from a local primary school in for some friendly games, a lecture with GM Rustam Khusnutdinov, and a Simul with Ireland's FIDE delegate and Senior Champion, Jonathan O'Connor. @ECUonline @FIDE_chess @IrishChessUnion @chessable @ChessKidcom

In 28 minutes, Open U7, Girls U13 and Girls U15 will begin round 5. All other sections will be on round 7. Good luck to all of the players.

Last Sunday, students from a local school visited @escc2024 and played some games in front of Plassey House here at the @UL. It was a beautiful day and fun was had by all.

There will be indoor and outdoor activities and games for the players available in the residential village. We want everyone to enjoy the tournament and their downtime in the residential village. There is also a schedule of entertainment events included in the welcome pack.
