When Elinor Ostrom applied for a PhD in economics she was turned away - her subsequent doctorate is in political sciences. Despite this, in 2009, Ostrom became the first woman to be awarded the prize in economic sciences. The latest is Claudia Goldin, awarded the prize in 2023.

2023 chemistry laureate Moungi Bawendi revolutionised the chemical production of quantum dots, tiny particles that have unique properties. His work resulted in almost perfect particles, enabling them to be used in applications such as LED lamps. More at bit.ly/3ZQkyOT
