I've had three run-ins with ofsted in the last two years, most recently this week. Surprised to find that not only was the inspector quite nice, he also actually appeared to know what he was looking at and moderated his language for ESOL learners.

Remember kids, filling in a lesson plan form does not make the lesson better. I have a great idea for a lesson and sequence of activities which I could work through beautifully on a piece of paper, but as soon as I am confronted with a f*****g table in MS Word it goes to pieces.

This morning's crazy adventure involved cycling literally all the way across Bradford from west Leeds to post a practice exam paper to a students house. "It's only 7 and a half miles on Google maps" I said, forgetting Bradford is basically in a bowl.

It would be tempting to argue that if I can't cycle in this weather, I probably shouldn't be going at all, but I'm not sure the car-centric universe would agree with me though.

Packing up for the first day at new job tomorrow, with plenty of exciting challenges ahead. First mission, of course, is arriving in one piece, getting changed and cooling off a bit so I look halfway human in my new ID badge picture.

Hey hivemind. Thinking of getting a basic laptop (c.£200) for PhD and beyond. Tempted to go Chromebook as have android phone, Google one acct and new college is all Google. Good idea?
