For me it always helps thinking about what I read for a day and then trying to sum it and explain/tell it to a friend. I also believe just reading daily for at least 30-40 minutes helps with developing better memory. But the one thing that I’ve noticed destroys my learning is going on social or YouTube shortly after I’ve finished reading, my brain just immediately forgets everything.

I need advice on reading + retaining what I read. Any advice to give? I can never remember what I read. I want to try taking notes. But not sure if I should do physical notebook, note cards + scribble in book or use an iPad for more mind mapping notes, or use a Remarkable tablet. My goal is to read + note take but fear of physical is I want be able to recall it. Notes will just sit in book or notebook forever. Maybe that’s ok. Maybe writing the note is enough to help retain more of it. With an iPad I can take notes in the physical book, digital book and also on an app and can search notes, plus could read books there and it out always having the bulky book with me, but battery life is exhausting. May read more with this plus iPhone? Idk. I like my Remarkable a lot but don’t like the organization and lack of features but it works. Battery life is epic. All I know is just reading a book doesn’t work for me. Pointers?

@champtgram Also: Whatsapp allows entirely free of charge phone calls (at least within Europe) which would be paid calls with the default tariff plans. And some tariff plans (cheaper ones) do not offer free SMS Messages.

why the FUCK do europeans only use WHATSAPP do you all realize your phone has a BUILT in messaging app? what is the point of downloading another third party app? and then when you ask them to use imessage it’s always “no I only have whatsapp” WHAT KIND OF PSYOP IS THIS?

@champtgram Europeans use a myriad of messaging applications. Most of them have attachment options that the basic app of Apple (iMessage) does not have. But mostly (and from someone who used to disregard Whatsapp) is because the majority of people use it, so it's handy to keep all together.

When talking about emotional distress, using terms like: condition, disorder, illness, diagnosis, treatment, symptom makes you a player in an ideological language game that legitimates & normalises a pathologising, individualising & depoliticising response. Think about that.

@plk669888 It seems to me it was pretty much unavoidable, when offering it this way (in forms of "assistants", no proper insight/education on how they work). In the end, it's the same thing that happened with popular usage of computers (and technology in general), with even less awareness.

AI is mostly destined to be the Ozempic of media - a quick, stupid route to something generic, trivial and culturally degenerative. It will be used mostly to make terrible music, horrible video and a generation of "prompt engineers" will use it to create an endless slew of stupid children's apps and games. It will be the shortcut to generic "content" that steroids are to exercising, self-help books are to problem solving, Instagram is to personal narrative, Tinder is to organic relationships. Half of AI posts on X are people talking about making utter rubbish with AI. The printing press democratised books and digital printing took this to a far wider group of publishers but the amount of terrible literature grew to such a degree, it all but drowned out anything worthwhile. AI will take this degeneration further and extend it to all other types of media.

@Igor_Freiberger Yes, very dangerous when applied ubiquitously for generic glyphs like the period (that was my case!) At any rate, I lost a day of work but at least now it's restored thanks to backups and I re-edited the other work lost.

FontLab 8 Tip: Sidebearing Secrets In Glyph panel, you can set the values for left and right sidebearings. But you're not limited to integers. Add a = before the value to lock it –so changes in contours will not affect the sidebearing (1).

Piers Morgan, in questo periodo, è nel mirino dei simpatizzanti di Israele, che lo accusano di aver assunto posizioni troppo favorevoli alla Palestina in alcune interviste. Perfino Douglas Murray si è scomodato per attaccarlo. Forse quest’ultima intervista gli è servita per “riequilibrarsi” e riposizionarsi…
