Another proof that the Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA) delivers! Effective dispute settlement remains essential for a rules-based trading system.

The only tangible progress came plurilaterally: 66 Members, representing ~70% of global trade, adopted a pathway to bring the WTO Agreement on Electronic Commerce into force through interim arrangements. 3/3

Three key deliverables were within reach: • a comprehensive WTO reform work programme • extension of the e-commerce moratorium • incorporation of the Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement (IFDA) into the WTO rulebook. None materialised. 2/3

#MC14 delivered a disappointing outcome — a setback for multilateralism and the WTO system. At a time when global cooperation is needed more than ever, the lack of concrete outcomes raises serious questions about the WTO’s ability to deliver. 1/3

Glad to see Minister @PiyushGoyal. We exchanged views on ongoing efforts towards @wto reform and discussed the follow-up to our 🇪🇺🇮🇳 trade agreement – both sides working hard to ensure a swift formal signature for the benefit of all stakeholders. Time matters to both them and us.

An important meeting with Minister Wang Wentao at @wto MC14. The 🇪🇺🇨🇳 trade partnership is due for rebalancing and a fresh approach. I'm looking forward to welcoming the Minister to Brussels before summer, following my invitation.

At #MC14, MPIA members reaffirm their commitment to a rules-based @wto. The MPIA ensures disputes between us are resolved fairly, with a binding system and independent appeal stage. We encourage more WTO members to join it before a new system is established. #EUTrade

A good meeting with @USTradeRep Ambassador Greer on both @wto MC14 and the 🇪🇺🇺🇸 deal. My priority's clear: to jointly follow through on our deal and build on it, esp. in steel (incl. derivatives) and critical minerals. I'll travel to D.C. next month to advance our joint agenda.

Warm welcome to new MPIA members: Barbados, Liechtenstein, Moldova. A fully functioning @wto dispute settlement system is a priority for the EU but it clearly takes time - this is where the MPIA has successfully stepped in. We'll keep promoting it. Not exclusive, but inclusive.
