oh, absolutely not. genshin impact was heavily inspired by breath of the wild; this has been talked to death by the community and confirmed by the developers themselves. to deny that i think would be dishonest in any conversation. however, i think again that it would be fine to have a term like "genshinlike" because many open world gacha games just follow genshin's formula.

@sonavstr my first final fantasy was iii and i fell in love with the series from there. there are sixteen main titles and quite a few spin-offs, so... there's a lot! vi remains my favourite, and i currently play xiv and have a blast! (though, it's an mmorpg that requires a subscription.)

example games that i feel (may) fit the "genshinlike" category are: • arknights: endfield • azur promilia (upcoming) • duet night abyss (originally had gacha; removed) • infinity nikki • rewinding cadence (upcoming) • silver palace (upcoming) • tower of fantasy • wuthering waves • etc. mind you, i have played and enjoy most of these games! some of them have their own identity outside of the gacha, but others perhaps not so much. but as a player and fan, seeing the same thing over and over again gets old very quickly. i just think, "... this is just genshin again," and then i wonder how stagnant this genre is. i can imagine from a business perspective, companies want to get the "next" genshin impact and meet its success, but that is incredibly unlikely. so, again, this isn't meant to be a post to diminish or speak ill of similar open world gacha, but i feel the genre is reaching a point where everything looks and feels the same with only a few differences.

as a disclaimer, this isn't meant to be a drag or a negative trait for upcoming games. no one "owns" a specific genre, and ips can be creative given a similar concept. however, i think it's fair to say that many upcoming (and past) anime-style open world 3D gacha games continue to look at genshin's formula and try to recreate it.
