Many programmers would love to use "productivity languages" like @elmlang, but what about the business person who often makes the final decision? How can we rethink our strategies such that authors, developers, and businesses grow stronger together? 🔄 youtu.be/YPAaUFGrlEE

@disconcision @paul_tarvydas Time traveling debugging is actually way easier in a functional setting. Elm had that and backe dout. I never fully understood why. Maybe @evancz can answer that? 2/n

Bosses ask "but how will I hire functional programmers?" I talked to companies that made a lot of money using @elmlang to learn what they did. Turns out it is easy to replicate, and provides a path for languages like Haskell, OCaml, and Scala as well. youtu.be/9OtN4iiFBsQ

@DanielcHooper Went from a 2011 Air (with no eye strain) to an M2, and immediately my eyes got zonked by the end of the work week. The operative line in stillcolor seems to be: "enableDither": CFBooleanFromBool(!disable) After that, no problems. No idea how common this sensitivity is though!

@DanielcHooper If it can help someone at Apple put a well labeled accessibility setting, I can experiment by switching from stillcolor to "reduce motion" though. LMK

Started getting eye strain when I got a newer mac. Eyes would be zonked by Thu/Fri each week. The cause was "temporal dithering", where pixels strobe between different colors even when just looking at static text. Turned it off with github.com/aiaf/Stillcolor and was all good!

Intuitively it seems like a bad idea to stare into a strobe light, so I am curious if other people had similar experiences. Same goes for "Pulse Width Modulation" for dimming OLED screens by strobing them...

If you want to put it into a translator, double check if you copy/paste from the PDF. The embedded Japanese characters kept getting pushed to the end of lines in both Preview and Firefox for me!

Here's a link to the Bank of Korea report from my @LambdaDays talk: bok.or.kr/portal/bbs/P00… I think they have somewhat unstable links, so you can search the following if that particular link goes down! [한은조사연구 2008-13] 일본기업의 장수요인 및 시사점

I want to point the latest-0.19.1 tag to 0.19.1-6 in a few days, so please let me know if you run into any differences between downloading with 0.19.1-5 and 0.19.1-6 before then! Again, the binaries themselves are exactly the same! This is just about *downloading* the binaries.

Thank you to @SimonLydell for figuring out how to make `npm install elm` faster and more reliable! It's the same binaries, but downloaded in a nicer way. Please let me know if you run into anything with npmjs.com/package/elm v0.19.1-6

Anyway, I’m glad to have learned these lessons, and I think they’ll help me as I carry on! (Just would have been nice to learn the lessons a different way 😅🤷‍♂️)

This talk was difficult to write because my “naivety in business” (to put it nicely) led me to a much scarier position than I was prepared to go with a young family.

Some languages have 1 engineer. Others have 30. Who pays these salaries? Why? Does this put any boundaries on language design or development practices? The talk I needed to hear 10 years ago when I was just starting on @elmlang youtu.be/XZ3w_jec1v8
