I’m in Brazil for the first time in 10 years, since the Rio Olympics. And tomorrow morning I won’t be contesting for the podium. The hamstring tear I suffered in Tokyo 7 months ago is still healing and I am a long way from where I was then. But I’m excited for this test, to see where my body is at. And I am grateful that @worldathletics included me in their pre-race press conference knowing that and asking me instead about what Brazil gave to me 10 years ago. It’s remarkable to think how much I’ve grown and changed in the last decade, and the role my first Olympics played in that. Tomorrow morning (7am Vancouver time on CBC Gem) I’ll hit the streets of Brasilia, and I will give it everything I have. And maybe tomorrow that will be 40th place. But my words from the evening of that fateful 50km 10 years ago will ring soundly in my ear, ‘I left everything I possibly had out there and I can’t ask for anything more than that.’
